That is the question. I've noticed ECC dimms are more expensive. Does my motherboard prefer one or t'other? How do I know? I'm just beginning to build my first box, your help and patience are appreciated.

(I tried searching but the search feature wasn't working here for some reason)

You don't need ECC, unless you are running a server and 100% stability is a MUST!

As far as I know ECC uses extra bit for error checking so it's slower then non ECC, but it's more stable.

ECC is primarily for mission critical type stuff. Most consumer boards don't support it although I didn't see anything on intels website specifically stating that fact. I would grab some non-ECC ram and not worry about it.
