Hi all, sorry to be such a pain but I'm somewhat of an emergency and I need a decent router as quickly as possible!

Our (home) router has packed up. We are 4 students with final year deadlines looming, and we all need the internet!

We previously (currently) had a Netgear 108Mpbs Wireless router (WGT624). It had all the features we needed but has been nothing short of a pain in the buttocks. Crashed a lot, and now has packed up completely.

I liked Netgear until we got this router - I thought their router setup pages were nice, etc.

Anyway, could I get some opinions on a good replacement?

We need:

Wireless support (speed not crucial, but faster couldn't hurt)
Wired support (100mbit is fine)
Decent port forwarding controls
Ability to reserve IP addresses for certain computers
WPA-PSK
Price doesn't matter too much, within reason.

That's what we're looking for, but it's also important to get something that's going to be reliable, and won't crash all the time. What brands and models come recommended? BTW we are in the United Kingdom.

Thanks in advance.

The WRT54G and all variations (including the WRT54GL) are definately recommended.

WRT54GL.

I run http://www.thibor.co.uk/ on mine.

The newer non-L WRT54Gs don't run Linux, so the availability of third party firmware is almost non-exsitant.

Third party firmware unlocks some features (like SpeedBooster), allows fine tuning of others (like wireless transmit power), and fixes some known bugs (like the P2P connection limit).

Cheers guys, seems to be working nicely.

I installed the thibor firmware and it gave me all the features I was looking for.
