Forgive me if this question has been answered already... I don't get back to this board often...

Ok, you have the cash to spend on either chip.

Which would you buy? The Palomino, or the T-Bird?

I read about the XP being locked? I'm not a big overclocker, and I probably would never attempt to unlock the chip. What's this all about?

The 1.4 T-Bird however, is unlocked, and a tweakers delight from what I read.

I have an Asus A7V266-E motherboard that is awaiting the CPU.
I have been waiting for the price of the XP 1900 to drop. So far, it hasn't moved much over the last few weeks.
( $243 on Pricewatch 12/7/01)

Would the XP 1900 be a good choice? There's almost a $150 price differerance between the chips. OUCH!

I plan on running W98 SE. I will eventually run Windows XP as soon as the bugs are worked out. (Haven't heard of many, but it's too soon to tell)

Anyone with XP Palomino experience ?

Thanks in advance,

Homer

If you have the cash it's a no-brainer! Get the XP, it's got SSE and runs cooler, you should be able to get it to at least 1.75 GHz with it locked.

98 is garbage compared to XP. All the "bugs" are in 98. XP runs like a dream, restart once a month instead of 5 times a day!
