I have an Intel Core2 Duo E6300 at 1.8GHz procesoor on a Asus P5B-Deluxe MB. Multiplicator being stuck, I modify the FSB from 26x7 to 34x7, giving me 2.4GHz, but the RAM dropped from 800MHz original, to 533MHz. I mainly have to questions:

Is it safe to use it this way? The temperature went up to 62 degrees Celsius, from 51 degrees before oc, I have no extra cooling system. If both cores are used up to 100% what is the worst thing that can ever happen?

Is there a proper value to also use RAMs up to 800MHz? I read on variuos places on the Internet that 2.4GHz is the safest upper limit for a E6300. Do you have any other suggestions?

I mainly used it for desktop and mprime (wich brought down from 0.062 second/iteration to 0.053, wich i thing it's a lot)

Thank you.

yep you are safe where you are. you generally want to keep your full load temps under 65c, as read by Intel's TAT.

you can run your ram faster than your fsb, there is a setting in bios.

i'm not sure where you heard about 2.4ghz being the upper limit, noone told my e6300 that, its been happily running at 3.5ghz for months on end now, now problems whatsoever. you need ram and cooling that can keep up for these speeds mind you.

nice start to your OC. i'm sure you can get it up to 3ghz, or 428fsb. if you put your ram at the lowest setting, it would run the ram at ddr2-856. most ddr2-800 can do these speeds relatively easily. you will probably need an aftermarket cooler too.

The chip is definitely capable of much more then 2.4Ghz. At 100% CPU usage the only bad thing that could happen is the CPU overheats and burns out. But as long as you keep temps below ~70C MAX (most like it below 65C) the processor should be just fine. If you want to run your memory at 800 there is a multiplier setting directly under where you change the FSB. Simply select the "800" option.

Thanks for the reply :)
Can you please elaborate you answer? What kind of cooling do you suggest? I didn't fully undestand this: "if you put your ram at the lowest setting, it would run the ram at ddr2-856."

He said if you run your fsb at 428 the lowest setting for ram multiplier is 2x so that's 428x2 which is ddr2 856 .

So say your fsb is 400 the lowest setting which is 2x would make your ram run at 800mhz - ddr2 800.

I'd suggest an ultra 120 heatsink for air. It's one of the top heatsinks, but I like it because it's much slimmer than other high end heatsinks. Or you can go water, but it's 3x more expensive and complicated.

The Tuniq Tower is also a very nice choice. But check the cooling section, you will see posts in there regarding a new cooler Thermalright is releasing. You may want to wait until then.

yep, pretty much what mobitsfa said.

where you set the ram speed, there are a bunch of choices. the numbers change depending on what your fsb is at, but the first option after 'auto' is always 1:1 (so your ram runs at the same speed as your fsb). if you run 428fsb, it will run your ram at 428mhz. but in the list of speeds, it will show the ddr2 rated speed, which is always twice the actual mhz, so ddr2-856.
