Set up my new C2D system with gigabyte DQ6 board with 4 seagate sata perp drives in matrix array - 200 gb in raid0, the rest in raid5; WinXP OS and programs in Raid0 partition, data in Raid5 partition. As Bing discussed in the enter the matrix thread I used DriveXML and BartPE to make images of the RAID0 partition for backup - original winxp installation with drivers, after software installation, and then weekly backups of the RAID0 partition. Saved the backups in the RAID5 partition.
When I set this all up back last December, I went through and did disaster scenarios to make sure I could restore the back up images in the RAID0 partition using my BartPE bootdisk and DriveXML. Worked just as described in Bing's thread so I figured the system was good to go.
Well something screwed up the registry in XP. Windows would not let me do a system restore and so I figured I would just restore my previous image. Used my BartPE bootdisk and driveXML, but the system won't boot into windows! The system goes through POST, then stops at a blinking cursor. I tried restoring some of the original early images, but no go.
I tried to repair the XP installation of a restored image with my XP disc, but still nothing.
Last night I did a brand new install of XP and the system will boot into windows.
The problem is some of my data on the RAID5 partition is encrypted by my previous XP install and I can't access it!!! I need to be able to restore the original.
Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be with the failure to boot into windows?
