View Full Version : are two 18A 12V rails good enough for 8800gts requirements (?
My 8800GTS 320MB is arriving today - and I want to know what to expect in terms of power supplyiness. :bday:
The evga site says "Minimum of a 400 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 26 Amp Amps.)"
Is that for the card alone on one rail?!?! Somehow I doubt it.
I have a FSP 450PN. (http://www.fsp-group.com.tw/english/1_product/2_detail.asp?mainid=1&fid=123&proid=517)
It says it has 2 12V rails @18A. So, I have a combined 36 Amperes. Will this be OK for my new video card?
Thanks guys!

If it's not enough juice you will get a big fat red message across the screen telling you as much.
(I got the gtx version and made sure to get a single rail psu just because of the card so I would not have to worry about it. )

It should be fine unless you happen to have a lot of power hungry parts.

If your not adding ALOT of extras on the mother board. Then over clocking the heck out of your parts. It should do alight. Stock should do ok, with minimal configurations.
If you have random reboots and other stranges stuff going on, then you know you have chosen wrong.

I have a 3 HDD's, an AMD64 3200+ (939/Venice) with stock cooling, 2 GB RAM, and a sound card.
Are my PSU's 2 12V rails independent? If I hook everything up to one, should I only expect that rail to be able to carry ~18A? (not that I would do that, just trying to understand 2 rials versus a single amperage requirement...)

pkw,
Flash your BIOS to the latest one (2.30). It solves a lot of little annoyances.

My enermax 535 has 18a on dual 12v rails and it is running the system in my sig very well so far. Vcore is at 1.7v right now too. I also have 3 80mm and 1 120mm sunon fans connected as well.

I would go with Enermax 535 as well, extra 75+ watts is a good insurance that things will run as they should

Thanks, I will do that.
