This post is for the benifit of people in a position like mine was.
After buying an 8800GTS i installed the drivers that came with it. This was after uninstalling my old ones etc etc (driver cleaner included)
Right so the computer reboots and loads up with 4bit colour and 800x600 res. When i go to change the i got the following error (picture attached)
"The Currently selected graphics driver can not be used. It was written for a previous version of Windows, and is no longer compatible with this version of Windows..."
There is more, just see the pic.
Right, i spent all afternoon installing betas and unofficial/official drivers and still got the same result.
I am using Windows XP SP2 32bit. and i refomated only last weekend.
SOLUTION:
to get the drivers to work (or at least they seem to so far) I had to install the drivers using the Add Hardware wizard. That simple.
I am happy it is working now, and I will report back if things go wrong again.
cheers, Hip.
