Hello,

There is DDR and DDR2 SO-DIMM RAM that are both 200pin.
I just want to confirm something and have a question:

Would "DDR2 200pin" be backward compatible with "DDR 200pin"?

I have this question because I have Intel 915 chipset which uses DDR2 (CPU is Dothan) and my friend have Intel 885 chipset which Dell's stock uses DDR (CPU is the same as mine, Dothan)

I found some additional info that suggest whether the computer uses DDR or DDR2 depends on the chipset:
"DDR2 533/400, up to 2GB of DDR 333/266/200 (depending on chipset)"

My own answer to my question is: No, DDR2 is not backward compatible with DDR.
I just want to confirm with someone who is 100% sure so that my friend can stop thinking of using DDR2 RAM in his DDR laptop. Thanks in advance.
