Having had some real trouble with FPS in Stalker I went looking for a tweaked user file .. I found one on GameSpot (http://uk.gamespot.com/pc/action/stalker/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-34287187&pid=540331)
The tread tells u what u need to change .. its all very simple and it worked very well for me ... although I have had a few crashes .. but i would give it a go + if u can make any improvement to it post em up
