Does that mean it is going to be more of an MMO than a slash n bash?

Blizzard lost Blizzard North; so I'm sticking to Hellgate: London.

Blizzard North was originally an independent company. It was established in 1993 under the name Condor, founded by Max Schaefer, Erich Schaefer, and David Brevik. The company was purchased and renamed by Blizzard about six months before the release of their hit PC game, Diablo, in 1996. Diablo proved to be a considerable success, and the still-more successful sequel Diablo II was released in 2000. An expansion pack followed the year after.

By June of 2003 two new games were in production. However on June 30, 2003, several key employees left Blizzard North to form the new companies Flagship Studios (8 moved here) and Castaway Entertainment (9 moved here). The Blizzard North exodus continued on with around 30 employees leaving the company in total.

The resignations were partly due to a conflict with Blizzard Entertainment's owner, Vivendi, and partly due to employees wishing to start something new. Back at Blizzard North, however, they would have a common effect; of the two unannounced games that were in production at the time, one was now forced to be canceled. Geoff Fraizer of Blizzard Entertainment has since said the canceled game was a "Blizzard North kind of game". Since Blizzard's acquisition of Condor and until the time of this exodus, Blizzard North had worked only on Diablo games - meaning that a "Blizzard North kind of game" signified a 'Diablo kind of game'. Because of this, some have drawn the conclusion that "Diablo 3" was the unannounced game that had been canceled.

On August 1, 2005, Blizzard Entertainment announced the closure of Blizzard North, saying that remaining employees were moving to its head offices to resume work on an unannounced project.

perhaps this unannounced project was/is Diablo III :)

I'm pretty sure Hellgate: London is as close as we'll get to a Diablo III. If you've got an itching for a hack n slash pick up Titan Quest, it replicates Diablo in most respects with updated graphics.

:( I want it to be just the same... I'd like it to be still looking down sort of like how the dungeon siege games were. I loved those.

If indeed they are workign on the 3rd one, it's very thin ice they're treading on as far as changing the whole look of the game... diablo is just one of those games that feels right looking down on the action the way the first 2 were.

They could potentially lose a lot of hard core fanboys if they turn it into some gay cartoon bright colored 3rd person or MMORPG.

The warcraft universe has always had a cartoonish feel to it, due originally to the restrictions of pcs at the time, but has held its style throughout its course.

Theres no reason to suggest they would move in such a drastic direction with any of their other franchises. If and when (emphasis on when) they see the light of day.

Warcraft's Artstyle the whole time was very cartoony, unlike diablo which had a much more anglo-goth look to it, so even if they turn to a full MMO for D3, I am fairly confident it wont look cartoony this time around :P

Which in turn they should spend on development of games for people with no interest in paying monthly subscription fees. All of any games multiplayer modes should be free i can honestly see the day when deathmatches in unreal or ilk are based on subscriptions and you know what it will work because of the fanboys willing to pay already i pay my digital tv subscription mobile and home phone/internet plus i actually pay for the software itself home entertainment has become sooo expensive these last few years.

People are lazy, what can i say.
Gone are the days when companies had to continually develop to make money. Now work is kept to a minimum and money is still made through pay2play

@Oc1Kenube

I'm confused.. they are making money hand over fist with a subscription plan that has more people playing/paying than all other mmorpgs combined.

So they should now stop and make something else?

I don't think you understand the difference between a service and access to servers and simply a multiplayer feature connecting computers together via a lan/wan.

Maybe he was trying to say that they should take that money and do something with it, instead of just profiting from it? Dunno if thats what he meant though.

Well back in the day most of us paid subscriptions to game servers to play deathmatch and the like.
