Been figuring out this sh*t over the last week. I got an extra 40Gig ATA100 disk but forgot to buy an extra 80-wire IDE cable along with it. I had a ATA66 controller free, but installed the new drive as slave on the 80-wire cable that was already there for the 15Gig ATA66 drive I had. All seemd to work well, but I noticed win2k seemed to be slower in booting and when starting up some apps and stuff. But the main problem that occured was that every few reboots win2k would not start anymore due to lost clusters(!), invalid index entries, corrupt attribute records etc. etc. I already started to fear my mobo was nearing it's end when I bought that extra IDE cable and hooked the new drive up as master on it's own controller. Everything is fine now! The guy in the store told me it's quite common that drives with the ATA66/100/133 standards don't like to be mixed on one cable. Hope this helps anyone out...
