View Full Version : Need Help Modify Computer Case
Please help. I want to make a hold on the side of my computer for install fans. What is the best tool or way to do it.:(
This pos should be in the alternative modding section. It will probably get moved soon.

I used a jig saw for doing it. If you can find the bit in the right size, use a hole saw to stick on your drill. also, you can get a pretty clean cut with a dremel, but it takes quite a while.
Just make sure the stuff you use is meant to cut metal. Also, if using a jig saw, use masking tape to cover the area you are cutting. that will reduce vibration and keep your paint job from getting all messed up.

Best idea is to just cut holes where you wnat to mount them
glue em in
I used a dremel for cutting a whole in the side and top of my case. It worked really well. Didn't take too long and was very easily controlled. I highly recommend it. Then put in some hole for screws and just screw that fan in there and plug it in. Works great.
So, Dremal is a good tool to do the job. I hope i'm not burn the motor-out  :D

It kinda depends on how handy you are with tools. I f you want to make a fanhole, a holesaw is the way to go. If you don't have one or can get one I can give you the poorman's approach. First mark your hole with a marker or whatever. It will be 2, 3 inches or what size fan you put in. Drill several small holes around the cutout and try to get them close together. Then take your dremel or some tin snips and cut out the piece you have left in the middle. Trim the edges with your dremel and Voila! you got a hole.
How about the Rotozip Solaris? Will it work?

Stick w/ dremnal, but you could use anything as long as it is meant for cutting metal. Maybe a metal hand saw?lol.
Make sure you dont get any lil pieces of metal on ur mobo. Take-out or protect your internals carefully and watch out to make sure a dremnal blade(saw, whatever you call it) doesn't brake on the metal. Those mofos 'll leave a nasty cut and an interseting scab if they hit you.

A dremel is probably the easiest way to do it just make sure you don't slip and cut throught the whole comp lol
