Does any one else have this issue, whenever I play half-life and I look from side to side the screen does not turn smoothly, its like a few sections at a time move and the rest catches up kind of making it look like slow frame rate but its not.It looks nice and smooth going forward. This is the only game I see this problem in,all others are fast and smooth.I have the 3281 xp drivers installed and the latest halflife update and ati fix installed.I have tried changing so many settings and I just cant get it to clear up.thanks

Might be a refresh problem, does your monitor revert back to 60hz when you enter the game? Do you hear it clicking?

Check monitor refresh rate and try newest driver 3276.

Ok,it does click when I start the game but I thought it was just changing resolutions,I play it in 800x600 but it does it in any resolution I play.I have my monitor set out of game at 1024x768 and refresh set to 75 hertz so how would I fix or find out what the game is changing it to.I think I have seen the refresh problem in another post.

man this sucks!!I have tried everything from different drivers to settings and I just checked my framerate and its averaging at about 30fps!!! most of the time its lower than that when im outside. It has to be something with winxp because it never did this with win2000 or winme.Quake 3 I get over 100fps so I just dont understand this,i even tried reinstalling half life. Anyone have any clue on what the problem could be?

There is a patch for Half-Life and another game. Cant remember for the life of me where they were. I got lucky, I can run without it, but someone here had that same problem as you the other day.

Yeah I have got that installed,it wouldnt let me play without it.Thanks though. This is really getting to me because I know how fast it used to play on win2000 and I am dying to play some deathmatch right now but it just sucks so bad trying to play like that.I even tried setting my t-bird back to stock speed but it didnt help:( Whats weird is that every winxp driver I try it lists my card as a 7200,in win2000 it read as radeon 64mb ddr.On the ati site they list different bios versions for the 2 cards, I thought maybe they were the same.I wonder if i can get a different bios for my card?

yes!!!!found this on the rage 3d forums and it worked like a charm, framerate jumped up over 100 instantly,,,
Horrible framerates with Half Life/Counter Strike
If you're having problems with HL/CS, here's how you fix it:
ati_npatch 0
console command, config.cfg, autoexec.cfg, whatever.
put that in and your HL/CS will be fixed.
its to disable truform rendering, which is being software rendered on our radeons with the latest drivers (hence the slowness when seeing hostage/player models).
Valve/The CS team/Sierra could at LEAST MAKE TRUFORM DISABLED BY DEFAULT so that this bickering can end (it is ENABLED by default for who knows what the reason).
