from eHomeUpgrade (http://www.ehomeupgrade.com/entry/3683/completely_mind-blowing_linuxmce):

A new project called LinuxMCE (http://www.linuxmce.com/)is set to create some major waves in the Media Center PC world (via Download Squad). Unlike its nearest competitor, Windows MCE, LinuxMCE (http://www.linuxmce.com/)is free, open source software, built on top of the Ubuntu operating system and features an innovative 3D user interface (which you've got see in action to believe (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4422887272477313460&hl=en)) for superior media navigation, integrates home automation / lighting / surveillance functionality, easily catalogs content from all network storage devices and PCs, has the ability to control all existing A/V gear in your rack (i.e. stereo, VCR, Blu-ray/HD DVD set-top, etc.) with one remote, integrates an Asterisk VoIP phone system, a neat little feature called “follow me” that allows users to go to different rooms and access content from where they left off, and a whole bunch more. Personally, this is the first time I've heard of this project, but all I can say is: It's the most impressive, out-of-the-box media center application suite I've seen to date on any platform. Have a look for yourself in the video demo below.

it's a pretty cool and nice all-in-one solution (if it really deliver what it said). I really do like the 3D alpha-blend transparent interface/menu and the media-centric mean system which you don't need to stop or exit from the video to the menu! and lotta built-in control, e.g. lighting, home camera, etc.! plus really really like that you can use your bluetooth mobile phone to control it!!! (still not 100% sure about this one, but according to the video, you can really use your bluetooth cellphone to control the whole house!!)

guess I might give it a try one day.....

I'm slowly moving all my systems over to linux due to the fact that I refuse to move on to Vista after XP is gone. MCE 2005 was going to be my biggest hurdle since I've really grown accustomed to it and my wife can easily use it. This looks as though it may give me an alternative...possibly a better one at that.

I may set this up on my bedroom HTPC just to see how it goes.

Hopefully things will change once this thing gets seriously off the ground cause boy, that GUI is one hell of a mess. Worth keeping an eye out for tho.

I think that the gui could use a little work but it looks like a wknd of playing with and it would be no prob. Although if it does what I just watched as easily as this guy makes it sound than this would be great...... somebody install this and be a test rat...quick....I need vista relief....

this looks very cool. I've been playing around with Freevo and MythTV a little on my media box, but I always tend to gravitate back to my xbox with XBMC for all my media needs and leave m. I'll definitely have to do some more research on this.

Any updates on this?

I am going to incorporate MCE (linux or 2003) into my plans for automating my condo, and I was wondering if the project has gotten moving at all?
