View Full Version : S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Ending...what the heck??? **SPOILERS**

So I just "beat" STALKER and apparently I got the false ending...I made it to the Wish Granter and it was lame. I loaded up my savegame and apparently theres no way out of the Sarcophagus once you're in there, which at least to my knowledge means they put 3 weapons in the game that you can only use for about 15 minutes while your in the Sarcophagus (The F2000, SPAS12, and Gauss Rifle).
Am I missing something? Is it possible to get back on the surface? Has anyone here got any of the other 2 endings, if so do you even get to see any of the above 3 weapons?
I'm pretty bummed about this
I've gotten 1 other ending and a possible 3rd next to the false one, spoilers below:
*SPOILERS*
2nd Ending: You hack a secret door near the monolith (you get the code and some other info from a "background" sidequest) and uncover the illusion device that powers the monolith. After you destroy that a hologram appears and explains some more info, all in all it's a bit farfetched and too much to type here anyway. In the end you join a sort of cyborg AI program wich also produced the hologram.
Possible 3rd ending: when you talk to the hologram, say that you don't want to join the AI program, you then get teleported back outside and the game doesn't end yet. There's some portals around wich you can jump in and follow some kind of route, wich may or may not lead to a different ending. I got shot by a Gauss sniper through the head before I could finish the route and I didnt feel like finishing it at the time so I haven't bothered yet.
Anyone can confirm the 3rd ending? :)
edit: O and if you want to see the 2nd ending yourself, you'll have to do some sidequests involving Strelok and his group, they'll eventually lead to the Docter that was a friend of Strelok and he'll give you some codes and the location of the device you need to hack the secret door near the monolith.
And yes, you can only get the Gauss and the Steyr-clone in the last area. Personally I hardly used the Gauss and the Steyr because they where overpowered, kinda took the fun away, so I just used the 6-shot grenade launcher, saved up grenades since the beginning. I found the Spas-12 way before that though, way back in area X-18 I think, but threw it away shortly after (Big Ben > shotguns) ;)
Also you can only find the Exo-skeleton in the Sarcophagus, it's in a chest in a basement of some sorts shortly after you enter, it gives good bullet, explosion and impact protection, moderate anomaly protection but 0% radiation protection. Plus it's 15 kilo's :(

interesting interesting....
so if I wanted to do any of the other endings i'd have to start from a savegame OUTSIDE of the Sarcophagus?
yes, I did anyway, saved right before Pripyat.

I screwed up my main quest line, LOL. I went to X16 before X18 :D Didn't even know I did it out of order till I got to the end of X18 and I got documents about "another mysterious lab named X16." Now the barman won't take the documents, gonna have to figure something out... LOL. By the way, you don't mean the F2000 is a Steyr AUG, do you? My airsoft gun is an AUG and looks nothin like the F2000 :D If I'm thinking of the same gun anyways.

LOL that sucks about your game, I woulda figured they'd make it impossible to get to X16 before you visited X18.
Anyway I've never seen the Steyr AUG in STALKER. The gun I was talking about that I found in the Sarcophagus is the FN F2000:
http://www.defensieforum.be/img_wapens/f20002.jpg
it had better stats than the G36.
Ah that's the one, mixed up the names, my bad :bang head

I was gonna say, I'd be all over getting an AUG in this game :D
And I actually think I screwed up big time even before I did X16. I was in the Wild Territory, and it told me to help the scientists. I only came looking for the SEVA suit, so I didn't really bother much. But I killed the bad guys anyways, and found the scientist. He ran off and got himself killed, didn't know I had to get a psi helmet from him :D I went through the X16 area with the psi emissions, where you need to disable the three switches then the main one just constantly pressing the bandage and healthpack buttons ;)

Is the helmet purchasable before the X18 & X16 labs? I am just starting the X18 venture.

I have to say, the ending I got was rather lame. In mine, I made a wish to be rich. The rivets of the structure turned to gold coins and fell all around, then the building collapsed and buried me alive. Then it went to the credits. Rather dissapointing ending IMO.
And it definitely would have been nice to have been able to use those new weapons some more. If I knew the end would have been like that I would have made sure I used them a little more (only used the gauss like 2x :()

***SUPER SPOILER***
With the third ending you do get to use the F2000, and the Guass gun quite a bit (I had like over 50 rounds for the guass gun). Follow the find strelok mission...once you get to Chernobyl after you go inside the sarcophagus and such...if you answer NO at the end (you'll know what i'm talking about when you get there) you get to wander around the WHOLE backside of the power plant with the guns found in sarcophagus, much better ending IMO.
Ok this is for those who want to see all the endings without playing the game 3 times over, *MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW*

yeah, the links reflect the abbreviated form they show as in your link. (with the ellipses "..." in them)
But if you search for "STALKER ending" on youtube, you'll get the endings
oh and, Since I haven't heard of this "C-Consciousness", does that mean I wasn't paying enough attention or just that the game didn't do a god enough job of telling the story? The game play is really fun, but the story seems kinda weak to me.
By the way, last night I started replaying it all over again. So I installed the patch and started over. I am making sure this time I do the Strelock missions. (Didn't do any of those last time because I got confused or screwed up or something and couldn't figure out how to find him)
Oh and did anyone find hints about the game? I found a great hint about getting a MERC suit right at the beginning. (in Wolfs camp). I can't imagine how anyone would be able to find it without being told about it so:
First you have to accept the Nimble mission so that you get a gun. Then you climb the ladder behind where WOLF stands. Do not go in the door at the top of the ladder. Instead you climb around the edge of the roof line (you'll see what I mean). Then you get on the roof. Now you will see the next building (on the opposite side of where the ladder is) To get to it you just have to make a running jump. You will take minor damage, but it's worth it!. Now go to the far end of that second building. (on the opposite end from the ladder on the first building). There is a triangular shaped hole in the roof. You can just barely see a box inside the roof, in the attic. Shoot the box to open it. Then maneuver yourself so you can get the suit (be patient, you can get it).
Now you have yourself a MERC suit instead of just a leather jacket :)
ah sorry about the links, just copy-pasting it entirely doesn't work it seems. But the vids are on youtube, just search for "stalker ending".
And yes, for the last two endings listed you have to do the Strelok side-quest, not that hard if you ask some people about strelok. The shady guy in the bar also sells information.

Sup guys. This is my first post. I came cuz I just finished STALKER too, and wanted to see what the deal was with the endings. I ended up getting out to the back of the plant, saved, and loaded up a game so I could do the Wish Granter to see what would happen. I liked the game, even with its many flaws. I think it's a step in a new direction that Valve, id, EA, and the like will try to follow and expand on.
Anyway. I like the game, but I'm dissappointed. I was hoping for a more polished product. The game definately has major strong points, but some other things could've been executed much better.
I think story is a major point of improvement. I got to the hologram part and was like... "Ok, so all this time I've been working toward a Matrix 2 talk with the Oracle about what's been going on?? I should've been getting hints about this **** a long time ago." Instead, when I got there it was like hearing about some other game (that's how it seemed because this was so different from anything I'd heard of or played). It would've been much better if I'd been given hints and clues throughout so the end missions were just connecting dots left here and there.
I feel for the amount of work the programmers had with this. I actually worked as a tester at THQ in 2004. I played this game then, for about 2 weeks, just after we finished Full Spectrum Warrior. THQ already had the game in the pipe for 3, going on 4 years and wanted to get it out. The game has come a long way since then, but its clear that some things received more attention than others. I was happy to see some of our suggestions make it into the game, but alas most of them were ignored.
One thing I've always loved was the sound. This games music and voiceovers are great.
However, simple bugs like repeating dialogue should be caught and just illustrates that things were horribly rushed toward the end. I.E. The dumb trader in the bunker with Kruglov near the swamp kept saying "Hello, hello" even when I was outside. The guy at the entrance to the Bar area kept repeating "Get out of here STALKER." Also, the first trader played the same song ALL THE TIME. Sheesh, change it up a bit GSC. Even just 3 songs would do the trick.
The cutscenes are incredible so is the environment and graphics engine (which is part of the reason they took so long; working on xray).
I feel that GSC just experienced too many management difficulties (time and project management) with this game. I am really, really excited for their next project. They will have the experience of STALKER, plus the hindsight to examine other great shooters like DOOM, HalfLife2, and FEAR. Plus, maybe THQ will treat them to some hard earned finances. Hopefully, they can pull it all together, manage their time better and create a killer game. I think time management is most important because they will be able to better take advantage of the latest hardware/software developments as well as lhave the time necessary to hammer out the kinks and really fine-tune.
Well, those are my two cents.
PEACE.

Damn, I got one of the fake endings tonight and now I want to go back and get a proper one! I'm definitely considering playing it through again, now that I have some idea of what I'm supposed to be doing! This game starts you out with no direction at all! I think the game is fantastic, but the clunky interface doesn't make it very accessible.
I was skeptical about the "anomolies" at first, I thought they were just going to be used for jumping puzzles or something, but they didn't get in the way of the fighting. The only thing I really wish I had known when I started playing was the maximum weight mod, I played the last hour of the game with a 95 max weight limit so I could carry about 6 guns and it was so much more fun! I wanted to cry when I was forced to ditch the grenade and rocket launchers because of their weight.

 you can mod the weight!? That would be handy. I guess it takes away a tiny bit from the RPGishness of it in only being able to carry so much...but it would be SO nice to not have to drop good guns when you find another one :)

I've got another little thing I'm excited about on my second runthrough. I finally setup my speakers with the rear channels suspended behind me. So I am getting the full 5.1 affect. It's nice! /borat voice. :)

But seriously thats a good idea, I could imagine getting lost in a game much easier with a surround sound setup like that.

Well, with the location of the desk and relative furniture, it hasn't really been a problem. But with the old desk (it was about a foot shorter) I would bang into them all the time :)
But I made them so they are very easily removed. The end of the mount (where it meets the desk) just fits into a type of socket that I made. So to remove it you just lift if out. I usually just lift it out and drop them behind the desk (standing straight up).
Soemday I'll get a camera and take a good picture instead of the 2 minute Paint picture I have :)

NIce setup. I did this when I got DOOM. Turn down the lights and play with 5.1. It's very spooky.
I definately try to play thru all my games before using mods or hacks, otherwise the spirit of the game is sorta lost.
I do save too much though.

Hmmm....its been a while since I've played (just recently was going to reinstall and play again when my motherboard took a poop.)
You should look into the alternate ending where you don't make a choice at that oracle thing (been a while, I don't remember what it is called). There's a way to bypass it and it gains you some more play time, and as I recall quite a bit of time with the sniper rifle if you have one.
I hate to ruin it for you and tell you about Strelok. I'd recommend playing again and naking sure you do those missions, it might bring a bit of a surprise.
And I'd say that since you've played through, you should check into a few mods. Makes it more fun, and with a mod like the weight mod and trader mod, you can spend a little less time on the smaller stuff this time. With those mods you can carry much more at once and also buy anything available from the traders.
(Posted by Blackberry-Sorry for any typos)

I'll try to play the game again(i'm lucky i saved the game in pripyat,so i won't have to play from the beginning).

Ah, STALKER.
Fun game. I never finished it though. I guess it got a little too long in the tooth. I got up to turning off the Psi thing and about to head to Monolith but just got bored.
One of my favorite moments though was taking on the army at the bridge near the beginning of the game. You can do it. Then you get their much better guns and ammo.
Good times.

I got it off STEAM a couple months back and have had no probs at all. As far as MODs, Oblivion:Lost will knock your socks off. Play on 'hell' setting and you will get your money's worth. I found myself sneaking around to set up a kill shot just so the lighting would be at my back and the shilouette from the soldier would frame the shot. Pretty intense.
When playing stalker,i get to hear sometimes and in specific locations the sound of a cat.i always wondered what this sound is and what does it has to do with the game.if anyone could help me in this

Hmmm...like a meowing sound or more of an angry cat sound (hissing, etc) ?
I don't remember ever hearing that, but I haven't played in a while. As soon as I get my rig back up and running I plan to play with the Oblivion lost mod.
