I'm going to replace the stock heatsink on my Ltek GF3 ti200 with a crystal orb. However, I noticed that the bottom of the heatsink is kind of smooth. Should I lap it? If so, what grades of sandpaper and other supplies do I need (I'm going to Home Depot shortly) to do this?

Surely some knowledgeable person can take a stab at this.

Check out my post down a few about my Crystal Orbed 7500.

I would not lap it they do not need it plus the Crystal Orbs are nickel plated so you would ruin the already smooth finish.

Just use some ASII between the gpu and the Orb and it works great. Check my thread out there is a pic there.

Alright. Well that's pretty cool I guess, i.e., not having to do the extra work. Glad I asked before I proceeded with ruining the hsf.

The Crystal Orb is fine, the Blord needs to be lapped as it very un-even and is made of about 3 bits of metal stuck together.

However the Corb was designed and made a lot better so theres no need.

If you lapped it propaly it wouldn't ruin it but for all the Haslle @ best you might get .7C better, not worth it.
