I am pretty much over anything semantec; they have gone Microsoft, and begun producing "Optimized to cripple winbloze" software, and its overpriced.

So I am looking for recommendations for a good disk defragmenter, a utility that checks for disk/windows errors (like nortons system check), something to speed up my booting process, and since NAV is the only devil program I am still using I would like to find an anti-virus program to replace that as well.

So if you have a suggestion/recommendation of software I could use, please drop me a line.

Thanks,

fd

I use Ontrack System Utilities: I have used this suite since it was Mijenix FixIt Utilities (ver 97 and 3.0) and now that it has become Ontrack: I think it is far superior to anything of the other similar suites out there: good integration, simple customization, effective av and the best registry utilities I've seen. Thats why I now have ver. 4.0 as well!

I sound like an ad, don't I? SOMEBODY SHOOT ME!:D

How long did you use Norton System Works before going to the one you are using now?

After I finally bought Win98 I got the Norton version they released ( I used Norton exclusively in the Win 3x days), don't remember name. I tried it out for a month and had all kinds of crashes and software conflicts: uninstalled it and the rig ran pretty smooth, so I gave it away.

I did some research and found Mijenix FixIt (now Ontrack) and have been using it with no conflicts or errors whatsoever.

....

Disk Keeper is one.

Norton Utilities 2002 is a very good one too but I don't see anything wrong just because they're under Microsoft doesn't mean they'll suck.

Juss keep a eyey on it.
