powering down?

Is it safe for me to remove a hard drive from my ide controller without powering down the computer completely? This would save me a lot of time if I can.

For consumer stuff. Only SCSI and SATA have hot swap.

well, that saves me some trouble. To bad ide cards don't have a power down a specific drive feature eh? Oh well. learn something new everyday.
