also which Dell monitors are better?
i'm looking for one at the 20"-22" range.

2007WFP is way crisper and brighter. I never actually seen an E207WFP but from what I've heard it's worth it to get the 2007WFP instead

different style of pannels... the E2007 has a generic TN pannel thats 6bit... the 2007WFP has S-IPS which will give you greater colors (8bit) along with crisper picture.. the 2007WFP is the way to go... also check out dells refurb section... 3 yr warrenty for anything that could go wrong... a 2007 for 269 @ dell with a 3 yr replacement warrenty is DAMN good

refurb means someone returned the monitor for what ever reason... then dell has to do a one on one inspection with the monitor to make sure it functions properly, and has no dead pixles... as others have said refurb monitors from dell are better than the original ones because unlike the original ones each has to get fully inspected very thourghly... i dont kno of a single person that has regretted buying a refurb monitor.. and its a 3 yr warrenty just like the original ones so you can return if something goes wrong, which isnt likely.

wont happen... thats 16ms black to white... most responce times other companies use are grey to grey which can be very misleading... another monitor might say a 2ms responce time, but in the fine print it will say grey to grey, and they rarely release the actual responce time...

Well obviously the e228wfp is 22inches but like the e207wfp it has a generic TN panel rather than the S-IPS that the 2007WFP has. A LOT of people recommend the 2007wfp over either the e207wfp or the e228wfp (regardless of the less screen realestate).

I know you said you were already getting one, but you can get the 2007WFP (along with lots of other models) from the Dell Outlet. They come guaranteed with the same 3 year warranty as a brand new monitor.

whoops sorry you are completely right. I was thinking about the 2407 because that is the one I am thinking about getting. You are right though. However sometimes a bigger screen (even with same resolution) can be better.

The dot pitch is bigger, resulting in everything looking larger even though the resolution is the same. Size-wise, though, the 22" looks a lot larger than the 20" even though it is not.

the coupons i found on ebay wouldn't work - on all of the 10% ones with small text is says they don't work on dell outlet products. you might be luckyer though and find one that works.

so, i got the monitor, it's really sharp, but for some reason i think it does not read well some dark grey variations. some shades of gray are more visible on my brother's crappy laptop. the problem might not be with the dell monitor, but with the laptop, which might be over-reading thim - i dont know. overal it's a masterpiece - very pleasant to look at - i guess the 8-bit colors is the reason, and of course - no ghosting what-so-ever.

I have the 2007WFP and LOVE IT! I thought I had my settings all tweaked perfect, then my buddy came over with a Spyder, and found out I was kinda far-off :eek: . The Spyder really helped with calibrating, it totally brought everything to life even more.

Calibrating your monitor with a spyder is pretty simple. You play with your monitor settings as usual, but you have a device and software to give you valued feedback, as opposed to just relying on your eyes.

If you want to calibrate by eye, you can use Adobe Gamma, which comes with Photoshop. There are other tools online to help you too. Here's some links:

I just took it for granted from other members here, Dell's website is so stupid. Some links say 3 years, some say 90 days. I will google cache them all and when they try to turn it down.....

That FAQ looks to be standard across various Dell webpages :shrug: In numerous places it does state the warranty period is specified on the packing slip that comes with the shipment. Someone who has bought a Dell refurb could check for us. I really doubt Dell doesn't have their butt covered for the warranty period so I'd say good luck with any legal action. Just trying to make sure people have the correct info :) if it was me buying I would give them a call or get it in writing to double check.

I would concur. I am confused about their warranty on their refurbs. One of the posters commented that his packing slip indicates a 3 year warranty, which is great. Their site, however, states a 90 day warranty. It would be nice for Dell to better label the warranty on the product pages so that the decision to pull the trigger is easier.

Sorry guess I was enjoying the monitor too much to come back and check the thread. The back of the monitor says rev 03. When I go into the menu I can see it is an IPS plus I can easily see the purple tint when viewing black at an angle, which is a dead givaway that it is IPS.
