View Full Version : MS wifi mannager
Ok so I want to use the MS wifi mannager so I can get rid of proset wireless that takes like 80MB of ram. The problem is that for some reason the MS mannager wont see my connection if the SSID isnt broadcasting. Is this a common problem or am I doing something wrong.

I thought most wifi managers wouldn't pickup non broadcast SSIDs.

You have to go into your wireless nic's properties and under the second tab select "let windows run your wireless management(or something like that) then remove intel proset wireless off your start up. I'll get screen up 2morow when i get the laptop back if you need one.
I know how to do that.
But the problem is it wont connect, even if I make the network with the wizard.
On the proset wireless I can go connet to profile and it will connect, the MS one wont at all. I have entered the SSID name etc into the wizard with net key etc. Nothing.
My intelproset wireless witll say "SSID not broadcast" if it finds a connection with no SSID the microsoft one doesnt see anything.
Got it working, I downloaded a hotfix from MS website. Apparently it wasnt looking at WPA2 properly and the hotfix solved that. I realy wish that hotfix was available in automatic updates so I didnt have to go searching for it. I mean with the ammount of people using WIFI now adays it should be in auto update.

Yeah, I had to do the same hotfix/patch to get WPA2 working on my laptop and desktop using the MS wifi management. Most can get around this if they install the Linksys (or other 3rd party) wireless software with their wifi device, since I believe most come with WPA2 support built in.

Yeah I had the 3rd party software from intel installed that came with my built in wireless adaptor and it took like 85MB of ram. Thats why i wanted to get rid of it. PLus it was glitchy.

Did you remove the Intel PROSet Wireless software from your computer? Or did you just tell Windows to manage wireless and leave the Intel software behind. I'm wondering how I can remove the software and keep the driver.
Can you please post the hotfix? Would be a nice contribution.
I think it's this one
