View Full Version : Voltage Concerns

I am running an Asus m2n32-SLI Delux wifi edition. I am using the latest Bios (0903). Speedfan is showing my voltages for the + readings fine
VCore1 1.36v
+3.3v = 3.33v
+5v = 4.84v
+12v = 11.97v
Where my concern is is in these:
-12v = 1.55v
-5v = -8.78v
I am running a corsair CMPSU-520HX which seems to be a lot for my particular setup. All I have in there is the PSU, 5 case fans, a Zalman 9500, 1 raptor, 1 dvd drive and a Geforce 7950GT card.
The system boots and runs fine (well, aside from the random shutdowns at load, but that looks to be heat related).
Are these reading correct? If not, is it a bad psu?

Software monitoring of the rails is absolute crap. It is not worth much. To test rails, use a digital multimeter.
If you are not having issues, then I would say you are just fine. Don't worry about it.

-12V and -5V rails are not used in modern systems. As PW mentioned, software readings are inaccurate. You have an excellent PSU and should not have problems with the kind of load it is powering. :)

QTF. Software is crap.
Software readings aren't good, especially from asus.

That is funny because with my current board, my voltage readings from software are within .01 v of my multimeter!
You've got a great PSU, so no worries there. As you said yourself, your shutdowns are probably temperature related.

That is not unusual, but not the norm. You can use software if you calibrate it with a DMM ;)

well thanks for putting that concern to rest. So far the system runs great, with the cooling exception. I reapplied some AS5 so we will see how that goes. Thanks.

Tyranos,
Mine are too with Everest (12.22v idle) and the BIOS but I certainly don't depend on that. DMM reads right now 12.14 - 12.16. This power supply has been this way since day one. With Orthos dual core stress test it runs 12.08v-12.14v all day. I don't know what Corsair/Seasonic did to make these power supplies so good but so far, they are!
I agree with Super Nade, I was quite surprised the software readings and DMM were so close and so steady. When I first got this PS, the first thing I checked was voltage, idle and load. Thought the DMM was faulty, it didn't move. Put new batteries in it and it still didn't move at idle. That's when I realized what I bought, a nice piece of equipment! Corsair Rules!
