Hi Friends !
I am planning to buy a writer. I just wanted to know whether the Acer 12x,16x or the Sony CRX1611/82U, Sony 168b, fulfill the given criterias below.
The main criteria for selecting & ranking a CD-Writer are:
Fully supports for 80 Minutes CD-R's.
Supports OverSizing/OverBurning.
Writes CD-R's at 4x speed or better.
Should be able to copy Protected CD's.
Must support TAO, DAO, Multi-Session & Incremental Packet Writing.
Must support RAW Writing (used in CloneCD & BlindWrite).
The firmware must be Flashrom upgradeable
The Burners should support other firmware.
Thanx for the replies.

Nevermind Sony, go for Plextor!

The only writers I _never_ have heard about anyone having problems with are the Plextor ones. My PlexWriter has served me well for a long time, and is supports most of your criterias. The only thing I maybe miss a little is something like BurnProof, but that is hardly needed when it's SCSI.

Thanx for the reply Sokkan. But I guess the Plextor cdwriters are very expensive. What is the speed of your burner. I think the 8x and above (IDE) should have burn proof features. Am I right???

The 8x doesn't have Burnproof, but the faster ones do.
I don't know about prices, but over here they're not that expensive anymore.

I bought a Plexwriter 8/4/32A cuz it does everything I want it to do.

Here are some drives that support overburning:
Plextor: (All 8x)
W124T (f/w 1.02)
W8432T (f/w 1.05)
PX-W1210 (f/w 1.00)

Ricoh: (both 4x)
RW8040A (f/w 1.3)
7040S (f/w 1.2)

Matsush!ta: (4x)
CDRRW01 (f/w 1.35)

Sanyo: (8x)
CRD-BP2 (f/w 2.17)
