Lo-Mac (Lock On, Modern Air Combat) is supposed to be a great Flight Sim.

Joe... I'm huge into LOMAC ....
It's the only jet based combat flight sim out right now that worth a damn... to be honest the genre is in trouble, it costs ALOT of money to correctly model military systems with any fidelity.
Hopefully Fighter Ops and upcoming releases from the makers of LOMAC will change that.
You could also go for Wings over Vietnam or for Falcon 4 but both look like dirt and no one plays them online.
hit up the forums and check things out... one can usually buy LockOn Gold at Circuit City but the game is downloadable. I like having the CD though.

Be ready for 4 weeks or so of feeling like a complete noob. I've been flying for 2 years and I still learn new things.
You'll need somethings...
- a joystick obviously
- Hyperlobby to play online
- Patience and time to acclimate
- A TrackIr will help down the line
Stop by my forums as well... I'm 3Sqn_Fudd (When i was a noob I shot down my wingman named "Rabbit" and the name Fudd was given to me) and if you get it join our TS sometime.

Falcon 4.0 and it's variants is still the top of the heap, but LoMac is good too.
The latest Falcon product ( but not the best) is Falcon 4.0 Allied Force

Falcon 4.0 For the absolute win.
LOMAC- People who care about eyecandy/arcadish simplified flying
Falcon 4.0- People who want a Simulator, not a game. Want to actually have an impact on a war with the campaign mode.
I am currently in the process of training a few friends on how to fly in falcon 4.0, trust me it takes a WHILE to learn everything

not true, not true AT ALL. Always people on hyperlobby willing to play, you just have to know where to go.
There's another server called multiviper that runs a 24/7 campaign mode server that has two teams where you fly against the other, and coordinate ground forces at the same time, pretty cool.
Falcon 4.0 Allied Force may not be the greatest looking sim, but it's the most realistic for sure. That's a tradeoff I'm willing to take...plus online play is as smooth as glass.

If you want to try your hand at WWII, it does not get any better than IL2 1946, the game is absolutely amazing and has over 300 flyable aircraft.

Yup, that's it. Be prepared to take a few days to learn how to fly...the manual is close to 800 pages, lol.

Just curious, do any of these support multiple monitor?
I'm thinking putting the HUD/Instrument panel display on my monitor, then the view on my projector.

Yeh my comments were based on multiplayer environment.... and the multiplayer has been smooth since version 1.1
Campaigns are cool... but again he wants multiplayer.
It's Lock On Gold (in US stores) or Lock On Flaming Cliffs downloadable.

LOMAC and IL2 Sturmovik (which is older I think) are some of the better rated combat flight games.
Oh I still have Falcon 4.0
Great game, but the learning curve is just...huge.

I dont dig the "super realistic/engine stall every 10sec" type of games.
LOMAC is still on my "to get" list.
Here's a 3 pack of flight games. Good deal to me. http://www.gogamer.com/Ultimate-Flight-Collection-Flight-Simulations_stcVVproductId5590005VVcatId444812VVvi ewprod.htm
