I’m having a problem installing Lord or the Rings Online. When installing, it keeps stopping the install with:

“An error occurred while trying to copy a file: The source file is corrupted.”

I just built the system (see specs belowfor the new system) and have updated windows, drivers, etc. I haven’t OCed it yet. During install the virus scanner & firewall were disabled. At first I thought it was a bad install CD from Fry’s. We returned it and got a new CD and still have the same problem. We did the (very slow) download and got corrupt file errors with that too. Went to the install sticky on the LOTRO.com site and tried all the things there. I’ve been trying for about 2 weeks to install LOTRO with no success. Anyone seen this type of error before?

I noticed that others having this problem seems to be using NEW computer systems. Could the install be bad because of something the install SW doesn't recognize in my new hardware? Could it be loading too fast and corrupting the files during unpacking?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well I haven't had any issues installing it, but I also didn't get the CD and am using the beta client I downloaded from a while ago. Mind you I just did a clean install and was copying the 4 gig setup back & fourth, if corruption is going to happen then it would there. That is bizarre that BOTH the CD/Client download would do that.

You mentioned other people are having identical issues on the LOTR Online Forums? I've seen issues before with DEP causing BSOD or crazy installation/corruption, try turning that off for the heck of it. Did you do a clean install again with same results?

Forgot to mention, I've had systems before running with SW on/off and never had an issue before. BUT it could be possible during the mobo driver install something got hosed.

did you try running disc scan? could be a problem with your hard drive...

Hate to ask a stupid question but I don't know how to do a scan manually. I've only done it when there's a problem and it starts automatically.

Also, it look like I may have lost the IDE port so I can no longer use the CD/DVD drive. I'll ask about this on a different thread. Since I still have the downloaded version, I can still keep trying the LOTRO install.
