Hi,

I'm new to the overclocking arena, and decided to jump on board with the Intel e4300. I'm having a problem however, even before I've begun the process. In the BIOS, I have SpeedStep and thermal throttling disabled, but the proc voltage and multiplier are still being changed based on load. They should be running at 1.28v and 9x respectively, but as we speak, CPUZ reports them as 1.25v and 6x (and they change on their own). With those two options disabled, any idea why this is happening?!

Using:
EVGA nForce 680i Motherboard
Intel CD2 e4300
Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit

because in the bios you need to find the option "EIST" and disable that. that controls the on fly speed/voltage.

Isn't EIST just SpeedStep? I do have that disabled in the BIOS.

After reading more about this, it seems like this has to be the problem. I can't understand how it could be happening if it is disabled.

With Vista, you have to also turn off the power management stuff too. I've seen this before in other posts. Somehow Vista overrides the BIOS settings.

I've already changed the Vista power schemes to "High Performance" and as far as I can tell looking at the advanced options, it should be ok. Does anyone know where any other settings within Vista could be located?

Thanks.
