My internet is only "Leased to me" for an hour at a time.. I have to restart my computer every time it runs out.. I've tried "ipconfig /renew" and it comes up with an error :bang head is there any specific reasoning for this?

renewing the IP won't disconnect and then reconnect your connection, you may not beable to have a new ip without reconnecting.

Is there any possible way I can extend the lease?
I'm not sure what the default lease length is that XP requests, but the DHCP may be set to only do 1hr leases.
When the internet connection dies, try ipconfig /all and see what the output is like. Seeing the output while the connection is active may be useful as well?

What do you mean by Output?

so we can see what that screen shows. do this:
ipconfig /all > ip.txt
this will output it to a text file in the dirrectory that the command prompt is in called ip.txt, then copyed and paste it here. do it before the lease expires and after
cheers

lol we kinda need to know what's in the IP address field. And it's not a good idea (nor is it permitted here to post such information) :P. Soo, it's prolly also not permitted to post your gateway's IP, and DNS servers as well.
That being said, is your IP address 169.254.x.x? Or is it all zero's?
EDIT, oh yeah, I HIGHLY recommend editing out your MAC address as well.

I'd contact your ISP, pretty sure the lease should be good for at least 4-5 days not 1-2 hours. How long has this been going on?

You could also try this as it could be a problem with Windows, ie Windows may be providing a temporary Lease to itself using cached info.
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
If that does not work then try updating you drivers (NIC) and do Windows Updates.

Yea whenever the lease expires my IP Address is all 0's
I plan to call my ISP.. I'll tell you all what they say.

alright guys i figured out how to not have that lease popping up all the time first run your PC fine such as a restart. than type cmd and ipconfig /all. save that picture than go to network connections, than right-click go to properties than to go TCP/IP Protocol than properties. you will see a default "obtain my IP address automatically" go to the crack and check use the following IP address. type your Ip address, subnet, default gateway if your connected to a router, than the 2 DNS servers. than your set you no longer have to worry about when your internets going to disconect.
