The victim, a Samsung 955DF. So far, I've used Windex and switched over to using tap water to preserve the anti-glare coating. Now the coating seems to be smearing. What's the proper way to clean such a monitor? Isopropyl alcohol? The manual didn't state anything about it. It's a good monitor and I'd like to keep it working as long as possible

Page 4 (Safety Instructions)You can clean the monitor with a damp cloth when necessary, but be sure to unplug the monitor.

I use ProSAT wipers (70% Isopropyl, 30% Deionized Water) or tap water for my Philips 2110 Brilliance (and for my R.I.P. 20" Mitsubishi Diamondscan).
Just use a soft dry cloth to wipe the screen before the water dries, that should prevent the smearing.

for my trinitron which also has the anti-glare coating, i just use a damp 0 lint cloth i bought at the store..or i just "breath" some hot air on the smudged part and clean it with a dry cloth :)

If u have black marks on it:eek: Cif will get that off.

Did you know that when monitors blow its because a tiny $50cents piece overheats because DUST builds up on it?

And I don't think you can fix it, put a monitor cooler on it (like me) and keep the dust out and keep it dead cool (from 95C to 35C) so it wil last 5 years more!

Thanks. Guess I'm cleaning it properly. Casanovalui, I'll pass on the toothpaste :p

DON"T use toothpaste to clean your monitor....toothpaste is an "ABRASIVE" if you use it to clean the crt, eventually the fine abrasives in it will wear away the glare/static coating and may possibly mar the glass after repeated use. Don't believe me?...try this...get a cd you don't need..( like an AOL cd :D ) the newer condition the better...take a tiny bit of toothpaste and put it in a spot on the cd...with a little bit of water...now rub gently.....rinse it off and you will see the spot looks "blurry"..why? because you just scored the surface of the cd with the fine abrasives that ALL toothpaste has...how else you expect it to clean teeth?? so using it on a monitor is not a wise choice....unless of course your eyesight is bad and you already see the screen blurry...:D

Good call, I never thought about that...

But I never would have used it on a monitor anway. I tried using it as soap once to remove fish smell, and it took forever to get off my hands.

i heard somewhere that toothpaste will fixed heavily scratched CD's. Seems to work too, i carried around my mandrake8.1 disc1 in my schoolbag for about a week, and it was horrible. So, i tried the toothpaste, and it even installed mandrake, not the slightest hiccup. I'll pass on the monitor cleaning, but toothpaste seems to work for mauled cds!
