Hi cf006b9045, welcome to the Forum,
You must first of all check your Cpu temps, I suggest MotherBoardMonitor that you can found here (http://mbm.livewiredev.com/) never must go above 40-45 degree C @full load (100% load), but less is better.
Rise the Fsb (system bus) from 66Mhz to 75 (better) or 83Mhz setting jumper on Mobo or directly into the Bios, depends by the Mobo, and rise the VCore (the Cpu voltage) too, to gain stability, but never over the 10-15% of the rated value.
What kind of Mobo & Cpu cooler are you using at the moment?

Try the beginner guides (http://www.overclockers.com/topiclist/index04.asp#BEGINNER GUIDES) on the front page. That's usually a good place to start. If you still have trouble after that, report what the problem is and the rest of your system's specs and someone in here can help.

Welcome to the forums.

the first step is to make your sure your motherboard has voltage and front side bus adjustment capability

this is either done in the bios or using jumpers on the board

some boards are not overclockable

at 83, stuff starts crapping out on my 500...drat! I need a better software fsb control that lets me go str8 to 100mhz, cpufsb is the onlyone that has my chip, and it wont let me go to 100! I think this chip could do it, but, the software just wont even let me try it!

Upping the FSB to 75 MHz, if that's even possible with your motherboard, is about the best you'll be able to do with a C-500. They just don't overclock very well because the core is close to maxed out. Those old cellies top out at about 550 with a few rare chips able to hit 600 with exceptional cooling.
