I had XP crash and after I did a restore, XP didn't have APM enabled. It's not avalible in power options, and I don't have any ACPI installed. What happened? I'm sick of manual shutdowns.
It sounds like XP doesn't think your computer supports APM. You may want to try doing a reinstall of XP rather than a restore.
If that doesn't solve the problem I would recommend that you go to one of the XP boards and try asking there. Two that seem to be pretty good are TweakXP.com and XP-erience.org.

I'm sick of reinstalling though, I'll just wait until I get my new mobo to reinstall. Damn why does windows have to suck so much, the only 2 windows that were ever stable for me were 3.1 and nt4.
When you get the new mobo you should reformat your hard drive and do a clean install of XP. I have done an upgrade from 98, a full install over 98 and two clean installs. The upgrade was the quickest but also had the most problems due to old drivers still being there. The full install was better but wastes hard drive space due to all the old stuff still being there and you still have to reinstall all the apps. From my experience and everything I have seen on the boards a clean install is by far the best way to go. BTW, as soon as you install XP go to the Windows Update site and do all the updates before installing anything else.

I'm getting a new board and I just got new ram, so I will just make a nice fresh start. Can't wait, gonna have 1gig of ECC ram, 1GHz celeron@1.??GHz, asus Mobo, and Windows XP. Need better hdd though, and possible better video card. If my new sys isn't stable im gonna be p*ssed, I'm just hoping my unstability is caused my my cheap half dead mobo and my cheap ram.
Its always good to start from a fresh install if you reinstall some core files still dont leave it so a fresh install would be so much better so much faster.
