So I just got my dell 2407wfp and I have been playing dod:s on it. My vid card (kept at stock) hits 91C ingame. This is running it at 1920x1200 of course. I have an aftermarket zalman cooler on it and it used to run nice and cool with my old monitors.

My questions are these. Are these temps crazy high? I mean right now my idle is friggen 65C. That seems a bit excessive to me. Would going from 1280x1024 to 1920x1200 result in a 30C increase?

edit: my idle keeps dropping bit by bit and now I am at 55C. Slow drop though.

Seems to me like its time to reseat your zalman cause that card shouldnt get any higher than 48 with that cooler idling. I think my EVGA ran 39C with the zalman at 7 volts and i run 1680x1050 + 1280x1024 on two monitors. of course, if your voltmodded, it sure would get that hot on air.

no voltmod

yeah I'd reseat the cooler. I have a 7900GS with a zalman cooler and played with voltmodding it, had it up too about 1.45V and it got to the mid 70s max. now back @ stock volts but still on the zalman, it'll barely break 55. Idle's @ 40-41. you sure the fan is working?

i was going to check the fan but I am not at my gf's house eating supper. If I go back tonight that is the first thing i am going to check. It will suck to have to reseat the hs but honestly i would rather do that than have a dead fan that i need to get a new one of.

My Asus 7900GS w/stock cooling idles at 45C and gets up to 84+C in game (Quake 4, FarCry, FEAR etc...) using my 2007WFP 1680x1050. I personally think this card runs a bit hot stock so I have a Zalman on the way. But your temps with the the Zalman on it seem high. Something is not right.

wow

yeah re set your cooler. and while your at it put down some Arctic Silver 5 or Céramique. i used the Céramique on mine and works great.

i idle at 37-42 depending on the room temp. and i get no higher than 80C on a HARD load. like Fear. for some reason fear makes my card SUPER hot. but in other games i stay around the 65 range.

and i should note that my card is overclocked ALOT. if your card is overclocked i would put it back to stock settings and see what you get for your temps

ALSO make sure your getting enough airflow though your case. if you have poor airflow it will make temps for your computer parts REALLY bad

i should be getting fine airflow. And i do have as5 on the 7900gs already. And this is stock mind you.

hmm

you may just have a hot running card but then again 65 idle is not right.

my card before i add my vf-900 to it would hit 115C i **** you not with the stock cooler when playing fear at stock clocking.

i was amazed that i didnt melt anything nor didn't get any artifacting

Well I don't have a 7900, but my 7600GT idled at 58 on the stock heatsink; so maybe its just a hot-running chip.

After installing a Zalman VF700, its at 45 idle/58 load (OC'd).

You think that's high? I have a Toshiba laptop with a 7900GTX GO and it will hit 125c...I'm not joking at all, it is in for replacement now...god I hate Toshiba....

I have no idea how it didn't, but the entire left side of the laptop was so hot you couldn't touch it. I didn't notice any damage, but for some reason, the system did not shut down...I thought the video card would atleast shut down.

The reason it does this is there is a bug in the BIOS for this motherboard that controls the fans, and it DOESNT RUN THEM...they don't know why. This is with any version of the BIOS. Also note, that 125c WAS AT THE DESKTOP...and I seriously didn't care if that thing would have died, its under a 4 year warranty and it was malfunctioning...

cant you go into the video card settings and set the fans at 100% all the time? or use rivatuner?

also did you have the threshold shutdown check in the nvidia settings?

No, the fan is controlled through the BIOS...thats Toshiba for you, "no, don't use the cards features, lets make our own"...its retarted. And no, no program can touch either the fan settings or clock settings for BOTH the video card and the CPU...

The shutdown threshold was set to 115, I can't changeit.

well thats really gay.

you would think they would allow you to adjust the settings.

ok so i remounted and still temps get high. I hit a new record. 104. woo! And this is on stock. Then I took one of my house fans and put it on the card and cranked up the oc. It ran at 55C. So it would seem that airflow is my problem. Hmmm..... How to increase airflow while still keeping system quiet... I might just have to go wc'ing... :)

Or get a better case?

Do you have pics of your current case?

This shows that you have bad case flow.

Definitely agree, I wonder how cramped his case is. Might want to try out one of the PCI slot fans if money for a new case isn't there.

do you de-dust (no not css  ) your computer case.

i do once a week

So I just put my Zalman on my 7900GS and have been running ATI Tool for 20 mins. With Stock cooling I hit 81C doing this. With the Zalman VF900-CU I get 47C!!! WOW a difference of 34C.

That blows my mind. Also, I now idle at about 33C where I used to idle at about 45C. Now to get OC'ing this baby.

I would definately say that IAmMoen's 7900GS is running really hot. Poor airflow maybe? I also have:

2x 120mm fans 1200rpm (1x front in, 1x back out)
1x 120mm fan 720rpm (side in)
Stock 350W PSU w/fan (back out)

ok finally got around to taking the card out and remounting again and getting rid of all the dust. Thing idles at 67C unoc'ed. I thought airflow was ok but I have got to try something.

Those temps are better but that's still pretty hot for idle, especially for stock clocks and a zalman cooler :eh?:

I am sure the card can handle these temps np, but still bugs me. Is the card still under warranty? Have you tried talking to XFX? Maybe it's worth a shot?

I would find it hard to believe it's all airflow. Try leaving the sides off your case and see what your temps are like then. That will tell you if airflow is really effecting it that much. Is your CPU and/or MB skyrocketing in temps too?
