I have both and I'm about to install one of them on my gaming machine. Which one do you prefer to game on?

Almost every game is x86, so windows XP Prox64 would not be of any use, but you can't deny the fact that Pro x64 is much more stable, can support up to 18 exabytes of RAM(LOL THE MEMORY ADRESS WOULD BE HUGE), is based off Server 2003, and will have no performance drop if you run 32-bit apps in x64.

It's the best non-Commercial/Server MS OS there is, imo.

The x64 drivers also tend to be more stable, as long as they are not beta.

dont even bother with 64bit. its technology that was overhyped and still hasnt taken off yet.

mix that in with vista, and you have a recipe for disaster. ^^

I installed it a couple of months ago, and only a couple of my games would even run on it, the ones that did run, however, were not noticably any faster... when 64 bit games come out, then worry about it. Right now all games are 32bit, as before-mentioned.
I don't even like Vista for gaming, stick with XP, Media Center is quite nice IMHO ;)

i have also noticed that many games do not run properly. they do run but there are some bugs in games that run fine on x86 versions of windows.

i haven't been able to narrow it down to nvidia drivers, but i've noticed that certain visual effects cause some games to grind to a hault. seems that it would be video related, but i can't be certain.

I have been using/Gaming on xp64 since it was released... I don't have any problems with any of the games I play. That and the fact that for me it's been much more stable and Maintenance free compared to regular xp pro.

I've tried both, and on XP64 a handful of games didn't work, especially those with some kind of copy protection. You can also forget about all 16bit DOS applications.

I'd stick with normal XP.

I don't understand the point.. Waste of space on my proc imho. If they want to add crap just to make it sound good, at least give it support...

well, if you want to have 4 GB of ram and have it all recognized, winxp x86_64 is the way to go... or you could run it as a host for virtual servers (may require a boat load of ram if you are running a lot of virtual machines). that would save you from having to buy another win2k3 server license (after all, it is built on the same kernel as win2k3, correct?)

No point in gaming on 64bit Windows. You'll occasionally have issues getting games to run, and when they do run there won't be a performance boost. I didn't see any stability differences, either, personally.

In the past 18 months Ive only had two games not run on XP x64 and that was only due to the Starforce copy protection crap not XP x64 :

Silent Hunter III
Spliter Cell/Choas Therory .

All other games run XINT !

Just to name a few :
BF1
BF2
BFV
HL1
HL2
Q4
DOOM III
UNREAL
UNREAL II
GRAW
Generals
Star Wars / Empire at War
COH
Dark Messiah
S.T.A.L.K.E.R
The Elder Scrolls IV
Silent Hunter IV
FarCry x64bit version .
Ceasar IV
War Craft III
WOW
Age of Empires III

etc....

the list goes on , but you get the idea .
