does the Corsair Dominator Memory Airflow Fan (CMXAF1)

only work with the dominator series of ram

I like the dominator fans, but they seem just to pricey. To bad I'm a sucker for the gadgets ><

ok because i was wondering, someone wrote on newegg a review for em and said to bad there only compatible with the dominator ram but he could be wrong

it also says the fan it designed to be used with the dominator heat sinks but if it clips to the board i dont see why it woudnt work with other ram

I've used it with RAM other than the Dominator's.

Reason why is the dominator ram is fairly tall, so I suppose it should say something about being meant for the "extended" ram, not just Dominator.

i use that fan on my ram:)
Basically, thats all you need. Just a hint of advice, your ram doesnt produce alot of heat, so tossing more then say $15 into cooling for it and/or adding water cooling is a waste. I just have this funky looking antec fan on a clip pointing across my ram, keeps it pretty much at ambient temp. I just got a couple of those heat spreaders because they are shiny :)

I totally agree. RAM coolers/Heat speaders/sinks are only to make things look good in the case.

It is all a scam to make you think that you NEED to cool the RAM

You dont.

I think its more about looks and being unique with the dominator fans rather than the cooling aspect.

Here's two very inexpensive alternatives for those that just want results and aren't concerned about the bling factor...

First - the simplest of all - the rubber band mounting method:

You can click to the thread if you need more info.

Secondly, the imaginative and elegant, but yet still simple approach from one of our own forum members...The Fan Clip (caution, this one does require the use of tools to fabricate...I think that they call the tool a "pliers" :) ):

Hope these will inspire you and save you a few bucks in the process.

Your first link doesn't work

Use the cheapest method you can to cool your RAM. Like others have said, it doesn't really get all that hot to begin with. Even passable airflow in a case will keep it cool enough, if you place any kind of direct airflow on it at all then that's way more than enough.

I have to believe that the problem is on your end because I just tried it, both in my original post, as well as the link inside your quote of my post, and they both worked for me.

In any event, it is post #14 of this linked thread here at OCF:

http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?p=3181556#post3181556

In addition, the first link is actually found inside the second linked thread.

By the way, some guys expressed concern that the rubber bands might degrade and break over time due to the heat generated by the system so one of the guys, g0dM@n, I believe, said that he assembled his using fishing line. Others have tied two fans together using zip ties and then mounted both fans in place. Others have used "legs", using such items as bolts, plastic stems or wood dowels, to elevate the fan (or fans) over the ram so as to not have them touching the ram modules. All these variations are easy to do and only limited by your imagination.

Hope that helps.
