For those seeking to understand some of the problems with socket thermistors, this article (http://www.vanshardware.com/articles/2001/december/011209_AS_Interview/011209_AS_Interview.htm) from Van's Hardware is an excellent read.

great questions and you can see why he is the owner of artic silver inc. He addressed a socket thermistor problem lots of been trying to push around and did a good explanation of it and why they are off. I have learned to never trust a socket probe since my old iwill kk266 was off something like 10c and was easily manipulated by a single fan over the back of the motherboard.

Bump. Both newbees and veterans will find the concepts discussed in this interview valuable.

Is the thing that measures tthe temps a sort of cylinder thing on two legs? On my old board its bent over so if this was it I could bent it up to touch the CPU!

Where is the sensor that gives you the system temps?

Yes that's the sensor, it's marginally better touching the bottom of the cermaic with a bit of AS2 on but still not great.

In the southbridge or close by it.
