View Full Version : SMP help after rebooting machine
XP with the SMP client. Dual Xeon w/ HT. Using a batch file in the startup folder that runs fah.exe -forceasm -verbosity 9
Upped the FSB and rebooted and now it just hangs at:

is the client hang or the system?? I've never have problem running the startup batch file in any of my WinSMP machine (WinXP Pro & Vista 32bit)....
try to restart and lower the FSB back to before and see if it runs ok?
What is running in task mgr ... mpiexec.exe and 4 x FahCore_a1.exe's ?
( i don't have a win smp to check core name ... it might be fahcore_a0 on win?)
As a guess, assuming fsb was all you changed, the oc is just not folding stable.
I have found with my quads, that the only reliable stabilty tester for oc'ing is folding a demanding win smp test wu like 2610.
Running 4 x P95 is good for temp testing, but will not assure folding stability. Still re-learning how to oc here with quads tho ... a lot tougher and time consumming than with DC's
No cores in task mgr. Bumped down to default as it has been running 24/7 the last few days and does the same thing. Have smpd and mpiexec running, mpiexe sticks at 11 CPU usage. Checked against my other rig, shortcuts and permissions are the same.
Interestingly enough doing the removes and then the install/register for smpd & mpiexec fixed the issue.
Now I'll mess with the FSB again <------dumbass.
have you tried rerunning the install.bat? ... or manually running the smpd and register commands in it?
I recall that mpiexec.exe can need this ... never really saw an explanation about why from kasson over at FC ... but unless the win smp has had a recent bug fix, the underlying problem is still there
/edit too slow on my typing ... you found this out already :)

two thing you can try:
- delete the WU (work folder, queue.dat, unitinfo.txt) and see if it grab another one and runs fine
- uninstall the WinSMP and try to reinstall again
sorry, that's all I could think of right now....
Yeah, if nothing else if anyone else has the issue we'll have a good thread to search. FSB seems stable for now.....time will tell. Trying to avoid doing the volt mod to these LVs.....rather successfuly so far. :D
