Price started to drop like a rock already... the E6600 is now about $225ish- same as the E6400 was for the past 8 months or so. Check newegg, ewiz, etc.

Would somebody please explain to me what the below paragraph, that comes out of the URL
http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=38681
means  (it came from the second post in this thread)

"Meanwhile the absurdity of Intel's re-branding will come with the addition of an Intel Core 2 Quad processor 3 Series chipset to support the Intel Core 2 Quad processor."

That doesn't mean a P5B Dlx or a AW9D-MAX mobo wouldn't take the 65 nm quads does it

They are just referring to the upcoming new chipset from intel ... it has been referred to in the past as the 985 i think. I have lost track of the raodmap stuff, but i think it might be tied to the yorktown's late this year/early next year? ie quads on single die instead of 2 dies like current ones.

when is comes out there will be new mobos. Not sure if/when we will care unless it is ties to a new socket type.

Both P5B Dlx and AW9D-MAX already support current quads with the right bios level.

Mac, where is your $ list from? msrp or 1,000 unit's intel quote?

looking at the list, x3060 ~ 6600 at $90! I assume it is EOL so supply may be hard to find and limited retailers for the xeons ... but keep your eyes open for them! or a 3050 (~ 6400) at $38  ... with supply that would be hard to beat!

/edit .... looked at it again ... shows 6600 also at $90  if only we are so lucky to see those prices at retail.

I think those prices are how much the price will drop for those processors, not their actual price, Pete. Man, I wish you could get E6600's for $90. :D But I just checked and Newegg has dropped the price on the E6600 down to $235 and free shipping. They have the Q6600 for $659 now too. Looks like they already sold out on the E4400, E6320 and E6420 procs.

EDIT: ZZF is showing the Q6600 at $559.99 right now and also showing stock on the E6420 and E6320 procs too, but they show the E4400 as on boackorder.

EDIT #2: Mwave is showing some damn good prices on some of the C2D's. They have the E4300 listed for $117.50, which is a fricken steal for an Allendale. Plus it looks like they beat Newegg on most prices, but I imagine when you figure shipping in they will be the same price.

Wow Mac, if I could get my hands on a X3210 for $239 USD I would actually swim to the retailer if he was across the pond (either ocean) or walk in the desert without water if the retailer was in the Sahara. (i don't mean the one in Vegas either) Is this the (I can only hope) Q3 price cuts or is this the "you've got to be a relative or married into the Intel family" price?

@pscout: what's a EOL price (don't forget I'm a little new to this price cut stuff) it doesn't stand for "end of the line" does it? I'm pretty sure I know what msrp stands for, that's what the customer pays, right? Oh yeah, thanks for lightening my load (I was a little scared there for a moment) with the explanation of the thing about the upcoming chipsets from brother Intel. (I wish Intel was my brother, yeah I know Intel is an acronym and not really a family name, at least I don't think it is)

Just for clarification.. its the 45nm quads that will need the new chipsets (most likely) and the 3 series will be P35 and X38.. P35 being the mainstream chipset (DDR2 and DDR3 support) replacing P965 currently; X38 high end/performance replacing 975X (X38 will have no DDR2 support, DDR3 only for that beast).

The Q3 pricecuts on Kentfeilds should fall in line with the release of 45nm CPUs and the series 3 chipset motherboards.. so cheap quad core action will be a desion on $/performance v/s a platform upgrade * O/T * that would be an ideal time for AMD to hit back performance wise IMHO */end O/T*).

GL figureing that problem out (J/K if you have any Q's about this mess you can PM me to respond to this thread when I'm back online ;) )

jws.. an EOL (end of product life cycle) price is when they just leave the price of the product at its replacments price (even if the replacment is better, kinda letting you know its certians for that product).

For Toronto area folks ... PC village seems to be reflecting a lot more price cut with 'instant savings' than Canada Computers. PC village normally beats canada comps by a few bucks but the gap is wider atm. No price change at infonec.
Neither is listing 6320,6420 or 4400 yet.

Haven't checked any of the other cdn online retailers.

@JWS ... like green said EOL = End Of Life ... some retailers will drop prices to clear out old stock, some won't. Product may become hard to find depending how much was in supply channels.

@ mudd ... thanks - your brain was clearly working better than mine at 3 am :o

@ greenmaji ... thank for the roadmap refesher and update on the chipset nameing :)

That's what we'll be selling them for in the classifieds, next year. ;)
