my friends and i are starting a CS server but we need a cheap heatsink that can mount on the 4 mobo holes and can run a duron with a quiet fan. somewhere around 40 bucks shipped. the reason for the mounting is cause the teeth on the mobo are broken so we NEED this kind of mounting style. if anyone knows where i can get a heatsink like this please tell me. it will only be running a duron 850 so i dont think it'll need an alpha 8045 or swifty or anything. suggestions and links please! thanks!

I assume the reason why you want it to mount on the 4 holes is for stability. A HSF that uses all 6 lugs, 3 on each side, will do a great job to keep a HSF in place. The MCXC370 copper base would be a great candidate for this job.

The only thing is that it is $48.00 w/ fan but the aluminum base is only $38.00.

LOL. sorry that wont do. there aren't ANY teeth at all. they're ALL broken on one side. and one tooth broken on the other.i need something seriously cheap. like 40 bucks SHIPPED. i dont care if it works well since i'm not gonna be overclocking it. hell i'd use a stock HSF if i could.

i saw the bare heatsink for a Pal8045, since its a low speed chip, with good case cooling you may be able to get away with apssive cooling...

Well then repair it or just buy a ALPHA PAL 8045 & use your old fan. That's a real problem you got there:beer:

If ya still got the socket lugs ya could put um back on with JB Weld. Cost ya 'bout 4 bucks at the hadrware store.

If ther is any chance you still have those hooks, I'd recomend heating up you'r sodering iron and carefully melt the plastic to get them back on there, I'v actually done it before, and it's still holding:), I think it will be very hard to find any cheap hsf's that will have the screw set but my one guess would be to go look wa some waterblocks and there mounting sets, I think I say something for exactly what you need, I'l go look again in a couple of minutes.

Oh, one more idea, if you have a reasonably small hsf, you could try som thermal epoxy.

Bolt on a piece of 2 x 3 x 3/8 copper plate and mount two hsf's on it with small coultersunk bolts from the bottom of the plate. The copper is cheap enough from www.onlinemetals.com.
Use thermal compound between the sinks and the plate before you bolt them. Also, mount them sideways so the fans work out of both sides of each hsf.

Just a thought.

3/8 x 2 x 12 cost $15.07 plus shipping. That leaves you enough copper for a cold plate to raise it up a bit. You can use old factory hsf's doubled up like this...may even beat some of the good one's out there.....hmmm

One suggestion that Im not exactly sure but the last guy came to somewhat the same answer... But another idea... \\

Take a hsf combo... As long as it works for that cpu then it would work. Take something in a sheet format. cut it to fit inbetween a few of the hs blades... remove the fan - and have it large enough that it sticks outside the hs area and is large enough to fit into the holes you need. then place the fan back onto the actual hs and screw it down... Im not real sure if this made sense... Ill check it again after some sleep...
