Hi OC forum gurus.
Its been a while since I have upgraded my system. So I'm rusty with OCing. I'm going to be coming back to Intel. I'm going to be shooting for a decent OC with air cooling. I have pretty much decided on the E6600 and the ASUS Commando (maybe the P5B deluxe). I am having a hard time trying to figure out what RAM to buy. I'm foggy on the multiplier for the E6600 and what speed the FSB runs at stock. I would like to run 1:1. Will I need to buy DDR2 1066 or will I be fine with DDR2 800? Also which brand of memory works well with the Asus boards? Thanks for any enlightenment.

Getting some decent DDR2 800 will more than suffice. The multiplier on the 6600 is a whooping 9x and the stock FSB is 266. Once you OC enough to bring the RAM to DDR2 800 speeds (running 1:1) you will already be at 3.6GHz which is pretty much the limit on air cooled systems.

Ok just some quick math...

E6600 stock speed is 9x266= DDR2 533 speed?
To get the ram up to DDR2 800 speeds I would have to be running 9x400 ?

So the DDR2 1066 RAM is for if your running a super high FSB speed of 533?

Yes to the DDR2 533 thing.
To get DDR2 800 speeds (at 1:1), all you need to do is get your FSB to 400MHz. You are not limited to only 400 x 9 though. 400 x (any number) will also yield DDR2 800 speeds. What cooling are you going to use for the CPU?

I havn't even looked into the CPU colling yet. I like the Thermalright products. Do you have any suggestions? How is the Retail stock cooler that the CPU comes with?
