This is absolutely ridiculous now, i gave up months ago on finding a solution but now that i have the computer running vista aero i'm just confused!!

what i have, a xfx geforce 6800XT 256mb dual dvi... on a lanparty nf4 ultra-d, opteron dual core 3800? @ 2.7ghz @ 1.375v, and OCZ gold GTX (2x512mb) at 3.1v (running only 230mhz x 4 ldt)...

Now the issue I have and always had was using any drivers whatsoever for this card. i actually had the card collecting dust when i was using XP for a 6600LE card (more on the 6600LE later). I almost RMAed it but then i realized the 6600LE card gave me the same results, except using the default microsoft nvidia driver which allowed me to use that 6600le in windows XP. Anytime i try to upgrade it with the manufacturers drivers or Nvidia's i would produce the same blue screen of death, when the driver refresh occurs half way through the installation of drivers. the system creates a dump file and reboots.

(FYI i had a lowerclass ATI board in one day and it worked without a hitch with any driver... it was a buddies board...)

Well i recently installed vista ultimate and the windows aero DRAGGED with the 6600LE it was almost useless. So i figure what the hell, lets try the 6800XT card i have laying around... in windows xp the card didnt have default microsoft drivers.... but WAHLA! vista loaded the microsoft geforce driver just fine, and there i was playing with aero in full and smooth effect. (rated a 4.9 infact in the windows rating) Now this week with Command and Conquer in my hands... i attempt to play, everything seems fine, get 10-15 minutes into a game (smooth graphics too boot) but then i see the BSOD again. I attempt to replay the game and i get the same result. BSOD.

Now i try to install the XFX driver for the card (the exact one the SN# pulled up) and the BSOD of death occurs again half way through the nvidia install when it refreshes the resolution. Now here i am VERY frustrated.

Well since this was/is a long ongoing thing i already tried most things under the sun... First the ram i changed an old pair of OCZ Voltage Extreme for the GXT (same type of TCCD's i believe? which may be my culprit) i went from a athlon 3200 to this opteron, same result... i upgraded PSU to an OCZ model (480watt'ish) and the Lanparty ultra-d board was RMA'ed a few months ago. So i'm almost positive it is no longer hardware faults, unless that ram is really the culprit. the cpu never struggles, never failed or caused a memory error on its end. My ram settings and timings as far as i remember... are the same as another user with the chips.

I can't think i am the only one person around here who has had this problem, because theres no way its hardware anymore, perhaps a RAM conflict with the nvidia graphics boards.

Its funny windows aero screams along even under highstress, but what is up with the system crash half way through a graphic intensive game? voltage requirement?

first off, have you tried the latest drivers directly from nvidia?

"opteron dual core 3800? @ 2.7ghz @ 1.375v" - you completely sure it's stable there? orthos and all?

Yea its stable at 1.375 ran memtest and prime95 (combined 2 days). but i constantly use video encoding apps and i never had a hitch with cpu stability. I 'believe' (from a long while ago) that i had the cpu and memory run at default frequencys and this problem still persisted.
