The Mobo Dont have the option for CPU temperture & Fan

Welcome to the forums!

well, you got it to 450, that's a great OC. All I can say is, since you don't have any temperature monitoring, try to run your CPU to full load for a half hour or so, and then touch the heatsink- if it feels hot, you may want to think about adding better cooling. Otherwise, it may start to fail on hot days. Also, the hotter a chip is the shorter it's lifespan.

Good luck!:D

Thanks 4 the reply

i need a new heatsink & Fan because it makes a lot of noise.

How hot is 'Hot' & what type of HS&Fan should i use.

I've got 3dmark2000 & 2001 will that do to test it

well, in my opinion, anything over 40 degrees Celsius is too hot, no matter what type of chip it is. If you can't leave your finger on the 'sink for more than a few seconds cuz it's too hot, then you need a better cooler.

Unfortunately, P2 chips are built differently than current CPUs, they are Slot 1 cartridge style, now they are S370 socket style- I don't know where exactly to get a better HSF, or even what kind to get.

I do know that if you can find a Slot 1 HSF it should be pretty cheap. RadioShack cariies them, if you want to risk infamous RS "quality":D

You could try to adapt an S370 HSF to fit your CPU- I imagine it can be done, but I don't know how well it would work- never done it personally. You might want to try to improve the effectiveness of your current cooler, instead.

I forgot to mention this- you can remove the Pentium 2's metal case! (http://www.heatsink-guide.com/p2scalp.htm)
I did this on my P2 333, it was very easy to do and I never thought I was in danger of hurting the chip. I got at least a 10 degree difference from doing this. Had to alter my HSF to touch the cache RAM chips like the article says but it was easy, 15minutes of work for a good drop in temps.

Also, my 333 had a hellacious layer of awful thermal paste, it was a solid silver mass- not fluid at all! I scraped that crap off before I cracked the case off, replacing it with Radio Shack paste was good for maybe 5 degrees or so.

So, for 2 minor modifications, I got 15 degrees or so lower temps. Could be worth a shot!:D

Just could be the soloution with the mobo having no
sensors.

Thanks 4 the info.

only thing i can tell u, "be careful" I am currently ranked high in the business of killing the chips (4 within 3 month), so take my words, and you won't regret it like i do.

That's an awful lot to pay to OC a PII 300, IMHO.
