The new update for the PS3 made it fold approx. twice as fast! I now get 450 points every 5-6 hours. Makes me wonder how fast PS3 is really capable of folding.. I guess only time will tell!

Holy molly  : I've read where the new changes to WU's has made folding on other than C2D's faster, but I didn't equate these changes with the PS3 (am I mistaken  ) Anyway you look at it, the idea of being 2x as fast or 450 pernts every 5-6 hours sounds fantastic. Maybe it's time to look into a PS3? (the reason I'm asking is I have enough stuff laying around in my closets to build a couple more single core machines, I just can't afford a $200 light bill :bang head, besides that, I figure I've paid for enough vacations in the Bahamas for the utility owners like Ken Lay and Enron )

That is good news, never had that happen to the other clients I have used.

I thought i read on another ps3 thread, that the speed up only occurred on the current wu cruching when you upgraded, and then went more normal on the next wu? That observation didn't make a lot of sense to me.

One of these days i may just have to try one out so i understand how they work even tho i don't plan on populating the farm with them atm.

figured as much I doubt stanford will increase the ppd of the PS3s since they came outright and said that the baseline for PS3s folding 24/7 should be 900PPD

Yes, this was actually mentioned in the PS3 F@H Update thread. For those who are not sure what update he is talking about, it's the PS3 specific client that was 1.0 but recently was upgraded to 1.1.

I can't in any way speak for anyone but me, but you are completely right about me not knowing what I was referring to. At present I have no PS3's, but if they were better than a C2D's at folding (I have 4 C2D's and 1 on the way) I'd probably be interested in getting 1 or maybe a few of them to fold with. Thank you for pointing me toward the PS3 F@H Update thread.

After thought: I was pretty happy hearing a PS3 may be a viable folding candidate. Up until now I was under the impression PS3's were very limited in their folding abilities. (in other words the cpu was a much more diverse candidate, with maybe the GPU next  )

I had a WU once, Shelnutt can confirm it, I had 1 min TPF's.

The WU was only worth like 57 pts though.

All for a Good Cause. :)
