Should I get new speakers?

I've got these crappy speakers there are only 2 of them (it's called 'Platinum JBL series" which is 5 years old lol. Should I get a 2.1 system? 5.1 I can't afford right now. Interested in 2.1 mainly because it's pretty cheap and it has one of the big speaker (Is it a subwoofer??)

Which brand ? Altec Lansing? Logitech? Creative Labs?

I just want my music to sound more rich and bulky :D I also got onboard ac97 -- if I have AC97 will the sound quality still improve if I buy better speakers? Or am I just wasting my money on speakers and better off buying a new soundcard?

The "big speaker" is indeed a subwoofer. Brand wise, Logitech's have always been boomy and depending on what type of music you're listening too and your preference, you may not like them. I suggest you take an MP3 player to a local store, hook it up to the speakers and have a listen.

yeah you can probably pick up a logitech 5.1 system for under 70 dollars. I got mine for 40 (used).
