I was just curious. I am thinking of getting into phas change cooling and grabbing maybe a vapochill Lightspeed. This is currently going to be for my upcoming e6420 or e6600, but I would like this to be my last cooling system ever purchased. Since its so expensive and all it will need to last a long time.
What are your thoughts?

I would say a custom unit is best bang for the buck, but only if you can find one. I suggest going to the XS forums and contacting runmc (Ron). He may be able to build you one for a decent price, and he's also located in Texas.

for future expandability and most flexibility chillers are the definite win
Though if you want a subzero chiller, the insulation process is a bit more extensive.
I agree with Xeon, go with a chiller if you want it to last a while. People are running into issues now with heat output on new processors overwhelming current phase units, this shouldn't be as much of an issue with chillers.
On the downside, as NoL pointed out you'll spend a lot more time and money on insulation, but I think it would probably be worth it.
Buying a used phase system is a good bang for the buck. Just because a unit is 1-2 years old doesn't me it doesn't perform just like it did when it was brand new and you can find used systems for much less than new if you wait for them to up for sale.

You can get units ~$350 nowadays. I got my Mach2 for $310 shipped and it keeps my E6700 @ 4.2ghz 24/7.

Where did you get the Mach II for that price? I have searched around and see it going for $800+. If it is only $300 than I might just ditch my water cooling plans for this.
He forgot to mention, USED units. And yes, 4-- tho is what I normally see Mach2GT going for.

Overclocking fourm's classifieds, you just have to watch and wait.. He got one of the better deals in the last year or so. (Stock units, on lets call them EXTREAM fourms, don't sell for alot ;) )
I can see were custom chiller would have alot of bang (depending on the design) for longevity.
C2D has to be one of the best CPU's for stock phase (like a mach) but something with more stock thermal wattage (C2Q for instance) becomes a burden on the system quickly.

Ahh I will keep an eye out in that case. Thanks for the heads up!
