I jus bought a Alpha Pal 8045 and was wondering does it need to be lapped?
If so what diff in temps would this make?
I don't really wanna mess with me new HSF...

There are some very light machining marks on the base, but I think the gain acheived from lapping it would be minimal, to say the least.......
So I didn't bother!

What does everone else think?
just rub in some ASII to fill in the rough areas ... if there are any.... and that should have the same effect of lapping.

Cheers, I saw that on the AS2 website, it says to apply it with a bag or somick (grease from ya fingers) so I used a NEW luchbag thingy (see-through) is this ok?

Yes if you didn't handle the surface before using it. Anything plastic will do basically.

Cool, I'm trying to think of other ways to cool my CPU, back side of board?
Will covering all the CPU in as2 give any gains at all?

ONLY cover the chip... not the whole die! people say you get gains form it - but I wouldn't recomend it myself.
as far as back side of board - I don't think you would drop any temps except case temps if 1-2C at most.
if you have dual exhuast on your case ) would try this... mount a size matched blowhole on top... half way above the PSU then take an exhuast fan and invert it with a duct to blow onto the heat sink....you should see some differnce there!

I have a really tall case (1m high!) and I have a PSU a far way above the board then a hole I dirlled with another psu above it, however i put a fan there now so what was your idea again?
I have 585CFM going through my case and the temps for it are never above ambient!!!
