Is the Core of the CPU the only thing to get hot? If not why not cover the CPU (except bits that might short) with AS2?

I just thought, why not put a 486fan under the cpu inbetwwen the socket and it???? It probably wont work (no space or air cause fault readings) but why not!!!

Yes it is the only bit that gets hot. Covering the rest of the cpu will provide little to no improvement in temps.

Not quite sure where you mean, maybe a diagram... :)

Cool the back of the CPU!!!

Heat sinks don't even touch the rest of the cpu...

I mean put a fan under the cpu inside the socket!!!

Dumb idea but hey:beer:

That wouldn't work. Once the CPU was on it would be sealed up pretty tight and there would be no way for the fan to get air to move, unless you cut a whole in the Mobo under the socket!

I said that earlier!!!

It would be interesting if future designs implemented this, cooling the back of the CPU could be a good future of cooling!!!

Any Epox/Abit/Asus guys out there!

even you are admitting it is a stupid idea, you agree that the fan wont get any air so there is no point, covering the whole cpu in asII will be very expersive and pointless as the core only gets hot

why?

IDEAS AND FUN THOM ACTUALLY READ ALL THE THREAD BEFORE RESPONDING TO IT.

It would be a good idea for future Boards, extra cooling.

i like the pictures though:D

Maybe a small fan with a duct that tapers from a square to a slit that pushes air under one edge of the cpu, im not sure if theres any space there, but hey, just thinking..

Great Pics eh?:D

The wonders oF Paint!!! I think that next time i'll use seomthing else!!!!

But cooling the CPU from underneath would yeald a good temp as thats the only HOT spot around the CPU!

Hole in the board maybe....somehow I don't think it would work after that!!!!!

Well no not really. The hot spot is the core, the underside stays pretty cool as it's only heated by the core. So cooling the underside will do very little, better core cooling is a much better way of removing heat.

Heh, howabout just larding about 1/8" of thermal epoxy on the bottom, and raking it criss cross with a broken comb or something to make a bit of a sink. :

Hey I know, howabout they don't put the CPU in a socket, but kinda stand it up on edge somehow, in, in, in, yeah, a SLOT!!!! :p  :D

Cheers, just a thought though as there no circulation there.

Dangerous s**t!!!!

Who would do that????????? I mean i'd rather have the temp sensor and a .05C higher temp!!!!!
