View Full Version : Looking for a good deal on a printer/fax/copier combo
My parents have a crappy old one thats dying, so I need to find them a new one.
It needs to print color, fax, and do color scan/copies.
Price range is pretty open. I want to get a good product but I don't want to spend a lot of money. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Bump! Cmon guys I know someone has somethin
Lexmark has some decent ones that arent too pricy. The print quality is usually mediocre though.
I'd try a Brother MFC

I have a Canon MP830 and it's fantastic. It got good reviews which is why I got it and I'm very pleased so far. I got it from Newegg for $240 shipped (free S&H) their price varies if it matters you can just wait for that price again.

I read somewhere that the newer canons cant use the aftermarket ink, is that true?

I vaguely recall something like that but I don't really care. I tend to buy the name-brand inks, and this one has separate ink wells for each color and they are pretty inexpensive anyway.

I'd take a look at the Samsung offerings SCX-4521 series. Here's one of their offerings - http://www.samsung.com/Products/PrinterandMultifunction/MultifunctionProducts/SCX_4521FGXAA.asp?page=Specifications.
We've got one and love it. It does everything you need (print, fax, color scan) except color printing. I would advise you to buy a simple inkjet (non multi-function) and use the for your color printing while using the other machine for all other uses. These machines run in the $200-250.00 range, and you really can't beat them in terms of capabilities and cost per copy. This mixed with a professional grade inkjet would do your family quite nicely.

i did a little research and seems like either the Canon MP530 or MP830 couple with a wireless print server would be a good choice. Its a 50$ price difference between the two and of course the MP830 has more/better features (mainly printing speed and scan resolution) but what i like mainly about these is that they have ADF. Very useful when copying large amounts of documents.
