Hey guys... I was wondering about this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102093) card to pair with a recently acquired PIII 1.0Gz machine w/ 512MB RAM... Would the PIII be enough cpu to allow the card to fold properly you think? Newegg says the card has 48 pixel shaders and Sapphire says it has 36..:shrugs: (link (http://www.sapphiretech.com/us/products/products_overview.php?gpid=175&grp=2))... I'd like to dedicate this PIII to just to DIMES and GPU folding... What do you think... Would it be worth it?

The card on the Saphire site has 512Meg., and the one on the Newegg link has just 256Meg., so I believe they're different model cards.

The X1950 GT has 36 pixel pipes. New Egg's specs are simply wrong. How much the AGP cripples the GPU depends on whether it's got AGP 4x or 8x. The X1950 GT, to my knowledge, a lower clocked (500 MHz) X1950 Pro (575 MHz). I don't have any performance data on the GT but the X1950 Pro AGP (512 MB) does about 600 ppd on an 8x bus and about 540 ppd on a 4x bus and the p3 should be enough cpu to drive the GPU. If it has a 2x bus, I don't think the card will plug in. Performance should scale linearly with the attained clock speed.

Thanks ChasR... I think I'm going to try and O/C the PIII a little bit ad try to get my hands on a X1950 Pro.. I believe the AGP bus on the board is 4X...
