wow... all i gotta say is it dominates anything... I doubt ati will have a chance in this high performance market..

Yes,
It dominates the current 8800GTX leader by less than 5%..
In my eyes, this card is definitely not worth it for guys like us with GTS's or GTX's... The improvement is not substantial enough.

This is like simply adding a catback exhaust and K&N intake to a Mustang GT. The performance is just minimal for the money spent.

<------------- Still waiting for the 8900.

Not that impressive. It's certainly not worth the price premium.

Also, xbit didn't even test an 8800 Ultra. They overclocked an 8800GTX to Ultra speeds.

Not that much faster than the current 8800GTX and a "possible price of 650-999"?! C'mon....with how much the current 88 series overclocks thats definitely not worth it.

Well nobody's benched the 8800 Ultra, or tried to overclock it... so I'd withold judgement if I were you.

You'd all be singing a different tune if it turned out you could OC it to 1000mhz core...

My hope is that this brings the price of the 8800GTX's down a bit more. Other than that, it's not worth it: it's essentially an O/C'd GTX, but then again I'm not surprised. It's still an 8800, and the GTX is already the top of the line, you can only clock it up. If there was anything different about the chip or chipset, they'd call it the 8900. And I like the example dominick32 gave: you have your Lamborghini Murcielago, is it worth an extra $100,000 for a 50hp boost in an LP640 that shaves off MAYBE half a second? The 8800GTX is fast enough, paying an extra $100-400 for a factory O/C is just plain silly. I won't even buy any of the "superclocked" or "overclocked" cards b/c tossing an aftermarket heat sink (which I plan to do) will yield more of an O/C than the factory O/C that I would have paid an extra $50 for. IMO, not worth it!!! Get a GTX and sit tight for G90.

If thats all the Ultra has, then yeah its nothing special. Sounds like its going to be $800+ and extremely limited quantites. Which is fine, the GTX/GTS really are all we need for this current generation. It does open the door more for the R600 though as all it has to do is perform close to those numbers as I think its already ahead in additional features.

ehh, why even THINK of upgrading a dx10 card when theres no library of games to use it with yet, add some voltage and have fun

It can be used in DX9 thats why. A lot say the same thing as you have, its simple, the cards 2x faster than yours in DX9?

The card is a joke. Reference clocks are totally pathetic. Sure the newer cooler and the .08ns ram on it will be a nice addition. As well suppositly there was a slight savings on power with the card (2W) so they did change something weather its the board itself or the core.

i meant upgrading HIS 8800 to the ultra, he implies that people are actually thinking about it before the specs were released...
yea ive thought of buying one, but i play stalker amazingly, dont see why 400fps is better than the 30-40 i get

It sounds like another 7800 GTX 512 to me. You'll pay a premium to be on top for maybe a month tops. But, I'm still intereted to see how they actually perform in comparison to the mythical new ATI cards.

Try playing Flight Simulator X on Ultra Quality with your card compared to an 8800GTX and you will take that statement back. There are currently DX9 games that run like a chopfest without an 8800GPU. Just an FYI. The information that was presented to us in the first post of this thread is where I gave my response. By looking at the link provided, there is no way that the Ultra is worth the money over a GTS/GTX.

I think the 8800 Ultra is going to go the path of the 512mb 7800GTX

Nah, I think it's going to be more ridiculous than that. The 512mb 7800gtx offered a much bigger jump in frequencies, and extra memory.

Ya I think that this follows in the footsteps of the 6800ultra more so then the 7800gtx 512. The 7800gtx 512 actually offered something other then speed bumps and better ram.

If you compare the EVGA 8800 Ultra (http://www.evga.com/products/moreinfo.asp?pn=768-P2-N881-AR&family=23)to the EVGA 8800 GTX KO w/ACS (http://www.evga.com/products/moreinfo.asp?pn=768-P2-N837-AR&family=23) the only difference between the two cards are:

626 core (GTX) vs. 612 core (Ultra)
1080 memory (Ultra) vs. 1000 memory (GTX)
96.0GB mem bandwidth (GTX) vs. 103.68GB mem bandwidth (Ultra)

So for an extra $200 (MSRP) you get the above?!?!

not worth it.

Also take into account the GPU itself can clock higher, as well so will the Memory because of the .08 memory on it. Still as said its still pricey but for top of the top end preformance this will be king.

I agree that specs, atm, alone make this card not worth your cash. But wait two weeks for the actual release, I think we're going to see some crazy 'stock' clocks from manufacturers. Initial pricing is going to suck, but it will fall. Holding my breath for the 8900.
