View Full Version : where/how do i buy an AXIA chip?
since I posted last, there has been many new chips made from AMD...im thinking of purchasing a 1GB or 1.2GB AXIA chip now, in the hopes that it will be a little more affordable than before...my questions is the following:
1) are all the recently made chips have this AXIA stepping code on it or are there only a certain number made???
2) should I ask for an AXIA chip from a dealer or is it a safe bet that if i walked into a retail store like Frys, the boxed cpu will have this AXIA stepping code on it???
Thanks...
Get it over at newegg.com
I just got mine today, (my post is like 8 down from yours) and it is unlocked with an AXIA stepping, 1.2GHZ for only 96 + ship

For the record it isn't GB it's GHz, when referring to CPU speed;)
I too got an OEM 1GHz chip from newegg and it was an "AXIA" stepping.
omg...what was i thinkin...GB !?!? haha...yes, u r correct, i reeeeeally did mean GHz...thx for the correction...errrr..its monday !?!?!
ty for the referals guys...
can you answer my other quesiton? so do i specifically need to ask for one, or is it safe to assume all the newer Athlon chips have the AXIA or some variant stepping code on it???

I would do one better! Ask for a AXIA "Y" If they don't have it, wait!:) There is always the infamous AYHJAR 1 and 1.4!:)

try your chances on Ebay. There are always some AMD AXIA Processors listed on there.
Check this link and good luck !

If you can hack it, get to a computer show. That's the best place to get a CPU if you absolutely must have a good stepping. Most vendors will let you pick a CPU out of their tray processors.
I'd say that in 1.0 GHz-1.4 GHz chips, these would be the steppings to look for, in this order: (the "Y" is the first letter on the third line)
AHYJAR-Y
AXIAR-Y
AXIA-Y
AHYJA-Y
AVIA-Y
Generally, those are all the good TBird steppings for the faster (1 GHz+) CPU's.
Good luck finding your superchip.
