NOW if 8800gts 640mb prices drop and if someone was to give me a 680i sli board i would have no problem gettin into SLI 8800gts's! :santa:

The price of that thing is a wakeup call to the reality that would exist if there was only one company producing graphics cards.
And what gets me is that there will be idiots, probably including on this forum I am ashamed to say, who will buy two of these things the day they come out. They will claim they are garrentied a higher overclock with them. But lets face it, these cards are just overclock GTX's.
This smells of FX Ultra all over again...

it's a nice respin on the g80 core - the guru3d guys had theirs up to 690 core on air - you can't do that with a gtx.

Sure is the fastest card out but the price doesnt justify it, and even NVIDIA said they will have short supplies :(
pure marketing tool.

I'm diffenitly no expert on VC's, but I could see that it would be utter idiocy for someone like me who owns a 8800GTX KO to upgrade to the Ultra, and all I did was compare the specs of each card.
This smells of FX Ultra all over again...
Nope because the fx series sucked while the 8800 doesn't but I still can't take this card seriously. If ATI got their act together nvidia would have never released this.

The G80 owns, the FX sucked. Can't deny that.
But I've become acustomed to the "Ultra" variant of anything is a waste of money... on the red and green(black? :o) side of the fence.
And is it just me, or does the 8800GTX seem like it's choking on DDR3?
I can't visualise how such a beast is not choking on it's RAM, seeing how extraordinary demanding the X1900 is on it's memory, I put the RAM on my friend's X1950XTX to 1.6GHz(3.2GHzDDROMG) and I was still seeing a slight improvement in performance with the GPU at 725MHz.
I don't see why this has to cost soo damn much... I'd expect the price to be the same as the 8800GTX was a couple months ago. All you're paying is for is a slightly better fabbed core.
Excuse me, I just hate things that are not givin' ma' bang-for-buck.

they did this in previous gens as well its not like this is new ground for nVidia. This is not a mass volume card that is why it is going to sell for so much as was the case with the 7800gtx 512 and the 6800ultra before it.

the 6800ultra cant be included in that example. the Ultra had a slightly higher GPU vCore than the 6800GT leading to better overclocks. It stood out enough to be different from its predecessor. The stock cooler on it was slightly improved as well over previous GT models

Using nTune, we were able to run completely stable at 684MHz. This is faster than any of our 8800 GTX hardware has been able to reach.

Yeah, that's pretty funny.
My 8800gtx blazes through any game available, so why spend $900 on the "Ultra"?
On a side note, I'm selling my 8800gtx, PS3, etc. to buy a nice laptop for school, so I'll be using a cheap card for a while on the desktop. Feel free to PM me if you want the Ebay auction link.
This card will be like the 7800gtx 512vram card, most had the 256 edition, except for a few individuals who didn't quite realize what a waste it was unless you were some person addicted to Doom 3 or Quake 4 at the time, as those two games need 512vram to play on "Ultra" without any hiccups. :)
