wierd isseus with WD 250gb perp

Hey guys, so i just got this HDD (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148142) For my moms dell. Plugged in SATA to mobo and HDD, and then the Power connector. Booted it up, and it went to vista, and didnt show up in the Hard Disk location. Turned off, booted again, and saw that the bios recognized it. Restarted, and now with the HDD in, it hangs at the bios boot screen and the HDD makes a bomb like ticking noise.... whats going on here?
